My wife and I have this debate all the time. I take the position that if my skinless chicken and salad dinner does not satisfy me, I'll be back at the frig two hours latter for cookies and milk. So a filling meal that I enjoy even if its fattier then other foods will hold me till breakfast.

Having said that, to much fat in your diet is unhealthy. So you need to strike a balance, and we all know that pork chops are less fatty then ribs.

As far a superstitions go Trichinosis has been eraticated for a long time. I know pigs are filthy animals but are cows and chickens any cleaner.

Simple biology:

Just because it has no sweat glands, or eats crap does not make pork unhealthy to eat.

The fact is, pork is the cheapest meat you can buy, and is actually very lean depending on the cut of meat. On things like bacon, fat is abundant, where as a pork shoulder, the fat is very localized and can be trimmed off before or after cooking.

Pork chops are a little more "marbleized" but a lot of the fat content is concentrated on the outside, and you can avoid eating it if you have to.

There is nothing wrong with pork,.

Lean cuts of pork raised under sanitary conditions is just fine, probably healthier than chickens crammed in a coop.

I see that there is one reply here (and probably more to come) based on religious belief and not nutrition.

It's pretty unhealthy for the pig.

For you? Depends on how much of the fatty stuff you eat. Cut it away and it's not much worse than any other meat but it does require a higher % of the meat to be rejected to find the leanest stuff.

Pigs eat their own ****. They are one of the dirtest animals. I still eat them on my pizza tho. Trying to stop completly oneday. :)

This is an animal that will eat anything and it has no sweat glands so its filled with toxins

pork has a lot of fats so the pork is really unhealdy.

no more than any other flesh and where would you get a better taste than pork crackling?

It is healthy when it is lean, and served without salt added to it.
