Are prawns, shrimp and scampi the same thing?!

Question: Are prawns, shrimp and scampi the same thing?
whats the difference? taste wise i mean!

Answers:

Scampi is bigger, has less 'fishy' smell and the meat is closer to varieties of lobsters which is thicker and slightly more 'chewy'

In culinary, many people distinguish between shrimp and prawns on the basis of size but they are not the same in biology studies. To me, their taste are really similar but shrimp can be a rubbery if cooked a little longer. Generally prawn are considered more of a delicacy because of their size.

Prawns and shrimps are the same thing. Depending where you are the names are allocated differently. In UK a shrimp is a small prawn. In USA the larger prawns are called shrimps. Tiger prawns are a very large type that are often referred to as King Prawns and are often served 'butterflied'

In the USA, "scampi" is often the menu name for shrimp in Italian-American cuisine (the actual word for "shrimp" in Italian is gambero or gamberetto, plural gamberi or gamberetti. The term "scampi", by itself, is also the name of a dish of shrimp served in garlic butter and dry white wine, served either with bread, or over pasta or rice. The word "scampi" is often construed as that style of preparation rather than an ingredient, with that preparation being called "shrimp scampi", and with variants such as "chicken scampi".

In the UK and Ireland, "scampi" refers to the full flesh of a Norway lobster, deep fried in batter and breadcrumbs. "Whole tail" scampi is always made with Norway lobster, but other seafood such as monkfish tails may be used where this is not stated.

Taste with the larger prawn or shrimps are the most tasty. Scampi can be rather bland and it is usuallt served fried in breadcrumbs or with a sauce.

Prawns and shrimp are the same, just one is bigger than the other.

Scampi is different in the US and UK - in the US it is a method of cooking shrimp, whereas in the UK it refers to the tail of a lobster or some other fish, (but not shrimp or prawn) coated in breadcrumbs and deep fried.

Language. Prawn is English for shrimp. Shrimp is American for prawn. Scampi is cooked Norway lobster tails.(Nephrops norvegicus)

Biology. Shrimps have two pairs of claws . Prawns have three pairs of claws. Count them and see !

Always lived near the sea.

Prawns and shrimp taste the same. A prawn is a very large shrimp. Scampi is the name of a dish. It is garlic and butter sauce with the shrimp added in. You can also have chicken scampi.

there are slight differences, however being a vegetarian I cant recall the taste that much!

scampi is a dish, not an animal. Prawns are just big shrimp. They taste the same to me.
