I find it funny that half of the respondents mis-read your question. Sales does not equal unit-price.

Assuming you indeed mean "sales" and not unit-price, the weakened economy surely is the answer here. While frozen prepared meals are more expensive than cooking your own meal from scratch, people have less time to cook meals from scratch because they work either longer hours at work (to avoid getting laid off, or to attempt to get a promotion) or because they work two jobs.
The weakened economy has also increased the rate of dual-income households. i.e., women who might have spent 1-2 hours cooking her family's dinner might work outside the home from 9am-7pm now.

ConAgra announced a price increase last month.
Along with that, there are probably transportion costs associated with getting the food to be prepared in the ready to eat meal, as well as the cost of getting it to the store. With fuel prices rising, you will probably start noticing cost increases across the board on food and goods that you purchase.

Time constraints in families today coupled with more healthy choices among frozen ready meals. I toss a Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice in my lunch sack and take it too work. By the time lunch rolls around, the meal is mostly thawed and quick cooking. And they're tasty, too!

People can't afford take out but they still don't have time to cook.
