Is the apple cut?
It will turn brown, and will not taste different.
to avoid it: use lemon juice and squeeze it over the freshly cut apples, or you can sprinkle it lightly with salt.
If it is a whole apple, no cut etc.. then nothing will happen. They sell them in plastic bags.
The only exception to what I've told you is if you keep it for way too long, then it will rot.
The reason apples change color is due to oxidation.
It will turn purple.
