apples have a very long shelf life.
If your apple is spoiled, it will look spoiled.
Cut it open, if it is white and nice inside, it is good. If it is brown and mushy, it is spoiled.
Its not rocket science, its common sense.

Does it stink? Does it have bruises? Are there signs of worms? Does it look edible? If you said no to all of those, then cut it in half. Does it have anything wrong with it on the inside? Is it brown? Is there a worm in there? If you said no to all of those, take a bite. Are you dead? If you said no to that, eat the apple. Are you dead now? If you said no, then your apple was not rotten.

Is it mushy, brown spots, smell bad etc???

Then NO it is not rotten.
