***To the third poster. The 9 in round pans require one box of mix each. So you would there fore need 2 boxes.
Three boxes. After filling the pan, spin it around so the mix is fuller on the outside edges than in the middle. When you bake the cake, there will not be as much rise on the cake, so you will not have as much to cut off if you are decorating it.

Your pan is 215 sq in. Two nine-inch round pans total 127 sq in. So you can do one cake mix and get a cake almost the same thickness as if you had used the 9-in rounds.
