Salt pork and ham. It is a processed tinned meat. Churches are built around it just as much as it is scorned.

spam was developed from the canned ham industry... when they would can a ham (ya know the big ones for a can product) the natural shape of the ham would not fit in the size of the most ecconomical sized tear drop shaped can... so the trimmed the ham to fit. thus causing another problem..... what to do with the trimmings . they hired a french chef to come up with a solution he mixed salt pork and the ham seasond it piped it into a can raw and in the canning process it cooks the mix making spam.... i dont like spam its nasty

chef

it stems from when america decided to help europe in ww2. when they came to england they said they were homesick, CANT EVEN GET A HAMBURGER HERE, SIR!!. so the english boffins bent over backwards to help out [as usual] and came up with the concoction which was nicknamed by the americans as S.P.A,M. ...... SPECIALLY PREPARED AMERICAN MEAT. research it and you will find out.

I don't know what it stands for in reality, however by cousin says it is Stuff Posing As Meat. Haha, and it really is if you think about it.

Spiced Pork And Ham. During WWII, fresh meat was in short supply in various parts of the world and Spam provided the protein needs for many many of us. I still love spam & eggs on occasion.
