Red Velvet is traditionally a chocolate cake with a cream cheese icing. I have seen recipes such as Martha Stewarts that are more like a red irish cream cake. That is when I decided Martha Stewart really knows very little about anything she endorses :)

True red velvet cake is a devil's food cake with red food coloring, so yes, it should have a chocolaty taste to it. And is traditionally served with cream cheese icing.

They taste kind of like white cupcakes with a hint of chocolate which is great for me when I want something with more kick than vanilla but not full blown chocolate.

its chocolate dyed with red so yeah chocolate is normal....

I guess it can.

creme cheese, and yes, red velvet has a little cocoa
