Is there a way to find out if dry garbanzo beans have expired?!

Question: Is there a way to find out if dry garbanzo beans have expired?
I've discovered a pack of dry garbanzo beans at home. I'd like to cook it but the expiration date is Dec 2010. Beans seem to be ok. How can i find out whether it is still eatable?

Answers:

They aren't really perishable. If they are too old, they will take longer to cook if at all. They shouldn't spoil as long as they are kept dry. The expiration date set by the packager should be regarded as a suggestion. Cook them up. If they haven't softened up within two hours of simmering, then discard them.

If they have been in a dry cupboard they will be perfecty ok
