Can of fruit has a black ring around it on the inside near the top. Is it safe?!

Question: Can of fruit has a black ring around it on the inside near the top. Is it safe?
When my co-worker opened up the fruit there was a black ring around the top of it. (We work in a daycare.) It was imported fruit from Mexico. I have looked it up on google and I can't find anything on it. I didn't know what would cause the ring. I didn't know if it is safe of not. Is it? If it is not I would like to know why. We threw it away just in case it wasn't.

I used a can of Dole pineappe chunks in a recipe the other day, and forgot the can sitting on the counter overnight with the juice in it. The next morning, there was a black ring at the top level of the liquid in the can. It wasn't there when I used the fruit. I believe the exposure to the air and the acidity of the pineapple juice reacted with the metal of the can in a chemical reaction. If yours was there when you opened it, it might have already been unsealed although it wasn't apparent. That's how botulism can form, so it's a good thing you discarded it.

that doesn't sound all that great. what i do is look at the expiration date on it just to check and make sure. i don't know of any canned fruit that had any black rings around it so that must've expired or had bacteria in it so i would've thrown it away. :)
