According to the USDA, any meat stored at 0-degrees F. will be safe indefinitely. However, if the meat is not wrapped properly so that it has no contact with any air, it may suffer freezer burn if stored over a year. It will still be safe to eat, bacteriologically, but the quality may suffer.
If your meat does have patches of brown, leathery, dry freezer burn, just cut it off and enjoy the rest of the meat.
