Are frozen fruits just as good as fresh ones?!

Question: Are frozen fruits just as good as fresh ones?
I just bought some frozen organic strawberries and blackberries and they were quite cheap too, like $2.00 a bag at Hannaford. Are they just as healthy as fresh ones?

Answers:

Most frozen fruits are the same thing you would buy fresh, just flash frozen. freezing does not kill any nutrients. They are just as healthy.

One issue with frozen berries and fruits is that the freezing process expands the water in it, so it causes some rupturing in the cellular structure.

They are often sort of mushy/runny. If you are using them in a recipe or smoothie, this makes very little difference, but if you plan to thaw and eat them by the handful you may be surprised.

Maybe even better!

Many frozen fruits and veggies are actually more nutritious than their fresh counterparts.

Studies show that heat and light destroy nutrients; frozen fruits and vegetables get around this problem because they are flash frozen, right after picking.

As for taste and texture, you'll have to go through a little trial and error. Certain brands, and certain vegetables or fruits within brands, are better than others.
