Does 'one teaspoon' mean a flat teaspoon or a slightly heaped teaspoon?!

Question: Does 'one teaspoon' mean a flat teaspoon or a slightly heaped teaspoon?
Just in general for like coffee or hot chocolate.

Answers:

actually it's between the 2 take a 2 if you a heap from the jar and lightly tap on the side of the jar you get the recipe requirements, a flat tea spoon is too little most recipes mean roughly 5grams

It doesn't matter but you should try to be consistent. For example when cooking a recipe that requires a teaspoon of something and a tablespoon of something else either heap both spoons or measure them both flat! In the end you are only talking about a small quantity of ingredient so it shouldn't make a difference, but if you make sure the ratios are in balance then everything will be fine!

I actually searched the same question last several days. during the process of trying to find the answer I ended up getting a free Folgers Gormet Selections sample of all their ground coffees from http://cyberfreefolgersgourmetnews.tk!!! my Folgers products is arriving in just a few days and I love it!!!

If you are flavoring something like coffee or hot chocolate, that's up to you. I put in 3 heaping teaspoons of sugar for coffee :) For baking, it's a flat teaspoon.

n general it means flat unless a recipe specifically states "heaping". But for coffee or hot chocolate it's a matter of taste so if you want a stronger flavor then use heaping.

I believe a teaspoon means a flat teaspoon and if the recipe calls for a heaping teaspoon it will say so.

Slightly heaped.

It probably doesn't matter.

A rounded teaspoon, that is not flat or heaped but in between

when baking flat. but for hot coco or coffee its pretty much up to you id do a heaped tsp
