No, but some do not conduct heat as well as others. There was a fad last year of making flowering tea. I have some. The problem is you need to use clear glass to show off the tea. My sister likes them but she insist that the teapot match the cups, so We needed glass cups. I told her that I will try to find frosted glass, which the ridges from teh frosting helps keep the surface cool when hot beverage is in them.
