Veg...VS. Pescetarian?!
Veg...VS. Pescetarian?
Many people say that they're vegetarian but they still eat fish.
But thats not being vegetarian.......if you still eat fish than you are Pescetarian......Is it just easier to say vegetarian..i mean instead of explaining it always. Or am i wrong??
Answers:
Most people, when becoming vegetarians, don't really research and have a knowledge of what a [real] vegetarian is. I agree that it is easier to explain, because more people know what a vegetarian is, and not a lot know about pescetarians. The uneducated vegetarians do not know what they are doing, and don't see anything wrong with it. I guess I really don't mind, but I don't like calling myself something that someone else does, when they aren't a real vegetarian.

Vegetarian, not a Pescetarian.
I guess these people call themselves vegetarian because they did it for health reasons and therefore see no problem with fish. Which is fine but it confuses the hell out of the general public. Then when we 'ethical vegetarians' eat out and are served fish, we have to explain the difference.
You are right, but some folks will call themselves vegetarian when they eat fish, fowl or who knows what and why.
I am an ovo-lacto-vegetarian, but much of the time I am vegan.
I think it's easier than explaining the details. However, there are some who do consider themselves vegetarian whilst eating fish. To each his own, but still it irks me.
Veg...is Better!!!
Every explanation I've heard for that is "Oh, it's easier to just say I'm vegetarian. People understand it, etc."
Which makes little sense given how hard it makes things for actual vegetarians.
I'll grant that 'pescetarian' is not that common or readily understood, but I'm not real clear on what the hassle is with explaining it. Or, more accurately, I'm not sure what the hassle is with saying "I don't eat poultry or red meat."
It may be easier, but it's wrong and misleading.
