Garlic...are they talking about the bulb that you buy in the store, or are they talking about one of those slivers that make up a part of the bulb that has it's own skin that you have to peel off? Embarrassing for a 48 year old to ask I know. Merry Christmas all.

Judging from the answers recieved, is my face red...I've been using an entire head when it called for a clove...thought it seemed a bit strongish in flavor...LOL

Yup, the bulb is the whole thing and the cloves are the individual pieces that you have to peel. I also have the pampered chef garlic press; it is good. I didn't figure this one out until I used an entire bulb in a recipe, thinking it was a clove...let's just say the recipe was inedible.
its for one of the little slivers in the bulb of garlic
A clove is one piece of the garlic bulb.
By the way: I'm 43 and just figured it out about a year ago. lol
Merry Christmas
The whole bulb is called a head of garlic. The individual sections are cloves of garlic. HUGE fan of garlic, and the Pampered Chef garlic press makes me warm and fuzzy :)
My girlfriend ( I call her Martha sometimes ) tells me that the whole thing is known as a "head", and the slivers are known as "cloves"... I am 51, and never entertained the thought till a minute ago... Merry Christmas....
well im 21 and i knew that since i was like 15 16 but im something like a chef!
just one of the individual things!! and it's NEVER a stupid question!!!! some people won't admit to having to ask a "dumb" question every now and again, but we all do!
