Vegetarians ONLY?

my dad thinks im crazy to be a vegetarian. my aunt that lives with me supports me.they both bring in money. im only a teen and i want to know how to ask them to take me to buy tofu , tofurky,ect.?
i don't think my dad will let me cuz he wants me to eat meat.

Your dad probably wants you to eat meat because he is concerned about your health. Tell him that you can completely understand why he wants you to eat meat, and that you have seen many people who tried to become vegitarians who lived off junk food. Since you are not going to eat meat anymore, you would still like to have a balanced diet. Then explain to him that it is very important to you to try this, and you would appreciate his help. Tell him you have gathered information on healthy vegitarian lifestyles including substitutes for meat. Find a couple of recipes for tofu and ask him if you can get it the next time you go grocery shopping. I wouldn't try to recruit them into eating tofu and soy products with you just yet (it can be an aquired taste for those who really enjoy meat), one step at a time.

p.s. Beans and tofu are great substitutes and very inexpensive, costing much less than meat. Soy meat substitutes can get a little more expensive, but are usually comperable to meat.

14 years ago I had to break it to my father (a butcher) that I had decided to become a vegitarian. He was surprisingly supportive.

get a job and buy your own tofurky. If he's buying your food, then eat what he provides.

Find some delicious recipies using tofu and make him something to taste. Or show him the nutrution label. He can't fault you for wanting to be healthy!

You eat what is good for your health.
Tell Dad to take a break or go climb a wall.

Well the only thing i can say is that you might hve to find you a job and go buy your own food.

Try to tell ur Dad why u chose not to eat meat. If your aunt supporst you and lives with you try having her take you or maybe she can explain it to ur dad.

I am not a vegetarian, but I limit the meat I eat. I only eat chicken and fish. I do not eat pig meat, and I tend to stay away from cow meat as well. Same goes for lamb, deer, and whatever else people have decided to eat. When I still lived with my parents, it took a year or two before my dad realized I wasn't joking about it.

Until then, it was very handy to have dogs, as I would take my food into my room, and then I would feed the meat to the dogs. I didn't want to disappoint my father, by refusing to eat his food. It was handy, that we didn't sit down at a dinner table to eat together.

The next time your aunt goes shopping, ask to go along. Grab some tofu or seitan (Mmmmm) and ask "Can I put this in the cart?" or "Will you get this for me?". I don't see why she wouldn't if she supports you. Dads on the other hand just don't like change.
There are tons of recipes on the net you will enjoy if you are unsure of how to prepare tofu. Its also fun to make casseroles for your family at get togethers using soy milk and telling them afterwards!

That's a tough one. I would go with the "get a job" thing but if you are not old enough or if a job is just out of the question...I'd suggest requesting little here and there items. Next time you're going down the frozen food aisle ask to grab 2 or 3 packs of some Gardenburger Ribs or the Morning Star Grilled Prime Patties...those are the 2 I've had the most luck with when it comes to convincing people "our" food is not completely revolting. Most people by nature are curious and you never know he might ask to try a bite (or reluctantly agree to it after you've hounded)-either way start off simple and ease your way into it. You never know, they could eventually start buying it on their own-especially after they read the Nutrition Facts.
Whatever you do-don't expect anyone to be willing to fork over hundreds of dollars but 5 or 10 here and there probably wouldn't hurt...especially if you carry your own weight when it comes to chores and things around the house. Give and take, that's all I'm saying.

My teenage daughter told me last year that she wanted to become vegetarian. It's a bit of a shock if you've been raised to eat meat n tators. One thing I've found in buying groceries is that it's cheaper to feed a vegetarian than a carnivore. You might try looking at some of the nutritional listings on the meat replacements and comparing nutrition with meat products and showing your dad. Also is quicker to prepare vegetarian meals because typically there is less cooking time. Just as a heads up, tofu in a white cube form is not appetizing.
Good luck! Remember that you can always ask for an allowance in the grocery budget to buy your own items.

Try make him eat a delicious vegetarian dinner. Also, tell me why exactly you want to become a vegetarian. God knows, he might like the idea and turn a veggy too.

Your father is concerned about you. That's part of being a parent, so don't blame him for that. But he's also uninformed on vegetarian nutrition, and you need to know this as well, so that you do this correctly.

I'd suggest that you find the following book and that you both read it. It will help you to do this properly and it will allay his fears for you.
