A question about bruising and being veg.?!

Question:

A question about bruising and being veg.?

Okay, so I have not ate meat and over three years. I dont exactly eat a balanced diet, I just dont eat meat. I am a college student so KD is my best friend. I know I have to go to the doctor but I am wondering if this would have anything to do with lots of bruising that has shown up on my legs for no reason. Do you think my diet is missing something?

Answers:
It's entirely possible. It could be iron, protein, B12, or any number of things lacking in your diet.

Not that your vegetarianism is a problem, plenty of college students have nutritional deficiencies, veg or not.

Have the doctor run some blood tests to see if you're deficient in something, maybe you need a supplement, or a small dietary change.

My pure guess is that you're missing iron, potassium, vitamin E, K, and B's. Getting more protein and iron should help a lot for the loss of clotting under the skin. I take several supplements a day.

YESS. lol The same thing used to happen to me all the time. I'm vegan and have been for a couple years and I bruise really easily especially if I'm not being careful. You most likely need iron. (most often found in red meat) You can find iron in broccoli, wheat, etc. I take ALIVE! vitamins (made especially for veg/vegans)

Hm that's a bit weird, I've been a veggie for 4 years thats never happened to me. Maybe an allergy but don't really go by me, I'm not even close to being a doctor. I'd really go to a doctor.

i bruise easily too

1/2 the time i have no idea where the bruises came from

My guess:

You are a college student. You are drinking and bumping into things, and not realizing you are banging yourself up.

Trust me.

You could have anemia from a lack of iron. This would cause you to bruise easily. I bruise easily too and I have no deficiencies so it might just be you. You really need to be eating a balanced diet, especially as a vegetarian. Being in college is no excuse. Load up on veg at the nearest markets and look up recipes on the web. Vitamin C helps you to absorb iron better so eat oranges or take a supplement. Those dinners you are eating are packed full of salt and will be stripping your body of other vital nutrients so lay off and please look after yourself and your body. It has to last you a lifetime you know.

it could very well be an iron or B12 issue, but any way around it you need to see a dr because it could be somthing much worse!!!! as a college student, there should be a free or low cost place on campus for you to go to. good luck!
