Mock meats?!
Mock meats?
Whats the weirdest mock meat you've ever tried?Usually I stay away from mock meats because they kinda creep me out,but at my local grocery store they had mock duck,so I decided to try it out.It was...interesting,but it still felt weird cause it looked like meat.I've never even had real duck meat in my whole life. So,yeah, what's the weirdest mock meat you've tried?

It's funny that you mention mock duck, because my boyfriend and I just talked it over, and agreed that the weirdest mock meat we've had was fake duck at a chinese restaurant. We were really excited about trying it for the first time. When it came out, it certainly didn't look like duck meat; it was made of layer upon layer of this strange soy skin. And the taste, well, let's just say that we couldn't manage to finish it. It was pretty much like edible plastic. It was tasteless (except for the yummy sauce it was in), it took a lot of chewing, and it sounded like rubber on our teeth.
Aside from that, the one mock meat that I would say is weird awesome is fake fish. This one we had at a Thai restaurant - amazing! It even had a fake skin, made of seaweed, I think. I have no idea how they approximated the taste, but it was a lot like real fish (in a good way). I couldn't believe it was vegetarian. Wow, we should go there again.

Chinese restaurant just south of Canal Street in New York and a Thai vegetarian restaurant in Beverly Blvd. and Orlando Blvd. in L.A.
I guess it would be tofurkey. They were giving out samples at my supermarket. It tasted okay.
Does horse count?
Hot Dogs! I can't renember if it was Yves or Tofurky. They tasted exactly like hot dogs i ate as a child.
When i ate meat i didn't fully realize what it was. I think unconciously i belived i was eating something else probably wheat, soy or whatever. I renember the first time i ate red meat, i didn't like it. I felt pressured from a step-father to eat it and ate it only with lot's of pepper and salt.
A brand called MorningStar Farms makes soy corndogs. They are really good! Other than that, I haven't had the opportunity to try much since I live in Wisconsin, where the idea of purposely not eating meat has not and will not ever catch on.
mock Bologna
it was odd
I go to this wonderful Chinese restaurant, and for awhile, they had a vegetarian chef who made a bunch of mock meats. One of which was mock duck (or goose, I can't remember).
That was pretty weird. It was made of soy protein and bamboo. Yummy, but different.
Another one was some other kind of mock meat that we all thought was creepy... I don't remember what it was supposed to be imitating, but it was made of mushrooms and made my (vegan) friend gag (it was that realistic!).
Once we got used to it, it was great! *cheesy smile*
i've tried a lot of those mock meats..i can eat practically any mock meat but there was this one time, at this vegetarian restaurant..they served vegetarian prawns..and it looked soo real..just like real prawns..they shaped the tail and all,and the patterns that u can see on the body as well..i had to ask the waiter if tht was real, need some convincing.i just took one tiny bite and i couldnt eat anymore coz it looked too real..hehe..
i love the tofurky.....
its good stuff...
i've tried fake ham, fake bologna, fake turkey, fake hot dogs, fake italian sausages, fake sausage links, etc....
some of these were not vegan but only vegetarian....
oh and i love the fake chicken patties.....
Yves Turkey Lunchmeat....
Just tasted salty, and was kinda green looking.
Once you got the rest of the sandwich fixings, it was okay... but, I could have done without it and it would have been just as good.
I have tried so many of them! I guess the mock pepperoni would run near the top with some of the different lunchmeats like pastrami.
ive never really had an odd mock meat... but those morningstar corndogs are the best!
Guess I'd have to say tofu dogs. No matter how I've doctored them up, they're still nasty. XP The exception would be Tofurky Italian Sausage, it's pretty good, didn't have to doctor it up at all.
MorningStar corndogs are really scrummy, and unfortunately, I've recently read the ingredients list. Egg white is one of the ingredients, which renders the product non-vegan. Dang, I'm a vegan, and those things taste really good.
Mock shrimp is probably the weirdest. It looked like, and tasted like shrimp. I couldn't eat it. Yves Veggie Bologna slices have a very strange texture, but I never liked bologna when I did eat meat. Other than those, most aren't that weird to me.
morning star corn dogs. that was an interesting product all around. but there is just something about mock meats that gross me out. i always have a hard time swallowing them.
