If we eat a well balanced diet, does that mean we are uncivilized?!

Question:

If we eat a well balanced diet, does that mean we are uncivilized?

I was reading some of the replies by these extremist in regards to my choice to eat meat and I was shocked to read a reply from pagree1966. This extremist thinks that my choice to eat meat makes me uncivilized. What in the world does me being civilized have to do with me eating meat?

Quote by pagree 1966 "Look chum if you get your kicks from eating the flesh and blood of other animals then thats your affair.

Certainly it does not take an Einstein to see that in a few hundred years time there will be less people eating meat and more vegetarians about. This is because as time goes by we are becoming more civilised as a society.

For example, we do not still burn people at the stake for heresy anymore, or disembowel traitors. However, three hundred years ago this behavious was deemed appropriate and parents would take their children along to enjoy the spectacle.

Of course you are entitled to enjoy your sandwich but posterity will probably be revolted by you and your kind."

Notice how pagree1966 refers to meat eaters as "your kind". Do you see the level of mentality these extremist are working with?

Annie M, your response is not even an answer. I have reported you Yahoo! Answers for misusing this service. I will watching your replies and I may start forwarding information to an internet watchdog group if you continue with this behaviour.

Poor Foxie -- you must have the most delicate, sensitive personality of anyone I've ever encountered. Based on your many, MANY previous questions, you are always being shocked by something you've read or that someone has said to you.

I think a good round of psychotherapy ought to help you learn to cope with your hypersensitivity. And a hefty dose of Valium couldn't hurt a thing, either. . .your poor nerves must be tied up in double half-hitch knots by now.

Failing that, I suggest that you stop participating here in the Vegetarian and Vegan section. A man of your delicate and civilized nature probably shouldn't be hanging around with us tough, nasty-tempered vegetarian types.

Eating Meat is fine, Vegetarians are just crazy.

i think so far you are too easily influenced by this other persons comments, how about getting an opinion of your own and dont worry about conforming to this persons ideas of what is civilised, make your own judgement....and i dont know about you, but i wouldnt consider getting plenty of protein in your diet, 'getting kicks' from eating meat, would you?

If the chicken didn't want me to eat him, he shouldn't have covered himself in breadcrumbs and got himself wedged between 2 buns.

Though, I only eat meat when my doctor forces me too, other than that I'm vegetarian, (I have to eat meat periodically for medical and health reasons).

Why should we care what an obvious hater thinks or says? They are entitled to their opinion but you should only let it affect you if you believe it has merit. Very rarely does somebody filled with that type of self righteousness have anything worthwhile to say.

There's a big difference between opinion and fact. Obviously this person feels strongly that it is wrong for people to consume any kind of animal flesh, however, this is their own opinion. That doesn't mean they are right. Don't let them bother you and certainly don't let them stop you from eating meat if that's what you want to do. At the end of the day, it's your choice!

Don't worry about that person...there are lots of whackos that have no life but work and their apartment so they grab on to the latest fad, start subscribing to every rag there is out there on that subject, become mentally imbalanced and extremist, and eventually have to be put away...the larger cities are full of them!

Extremist abound...groups like Greenpeace, PETA, etc. fill their ranks with these lonely desperate souls...sad really if you think about it.

I wouldn't worry about it. When we reach peak oil and the world economy collapses, and the tesco shelves are barren, and they're scrambling to find any shred of available food. There vegitarian diet will fly out the window. And the real militant hard liners will be begging to cut my grass, and the rest will die off waiting for their beans to grow. Vegitarians couldn't survive without a grocery store. I'll remain "uncivilized" at least I can live off the land and know how to field dress an animal.

eating meat is fine! it's just that vegetarians are just vegans!! sure eat all the meat you want!!! I know it's not barbaric to do so!

You were a veggie a few weeks ago, make your mind up.

Well, personally I think when God has given so much for us to eat, why do we need to kill another life just to fill our stomachs?

Eating a well balanced diet is the healthier approach to life. This person who said as time goes by we are becoming more civilized is suffer from dellusions ... look at all the ASBO's .. crime rising, wars, terrorists etc .. how can that possibly be civilised? There are more vegetarians now than ever before! Makes you wonder!!

This world is full of sad people who think they are morally right to inflict their opinions in such a vitriolic way and it is they who are in the wrong.

I believe God gave us animals to eat and in the days of the Bible when there was no refrigeration etc those rules were restrictive, but now we know so much more about how to handle the stuff that there is nothing wrong with it.

I feel that meat eating is as civilised as anything else which does not harm properly slaughtered animals (ie quickly and cleanly, which is why I am afraid I do have a problem with the halal method) or people. And in moderation it has certain nutrients which are beneficial.

I think about some vegetarians who will only give vegetarian food to their pets which are designed to eat meat are the worst of their kind in that they are actually depriving their pets of their required diet. What hypocrites! Do not get me wrong, but extremism can be a bad thing!

You carry on eating meat guilt free and ignore the extremists. You are no less civilised than the rest of us. I am not telling you to do this, but the Bible states clearly, love the sinner, hate the sin.

Happy New Year

im a supporter of what you have read..although everyone else thinks that that is so wrong..for me there's just this part of it that is so true.i mean for one living being to be fed by the death of another..can you call that civilized??..anyway..im just frustrated about those people who thinks negatively of those things we do to promote animal rights..is that so wrong..

As soon as I realized that I didn't need meat to survive or to be in good health, I began to see how forlorn it all is. If only we had a different mentality about the drama of the cowboy and the range and all the rest of it. It's a very romantic notion, an entrenched part of American culture, but I've seen, for example, pigs waiting to be slaughtered, and their hysteria and panic was something I shall never forget. ~Cloris Leachman

Yep, he called you "your kind." But if you'll recall, when you posted one of these attacks about me, Becca D, you called me "this Becca thing." So I'm going to completely ignore that part of your question because it is entirely too hypocritical to answer.
I believe that pagree is absolutely correct. Future generations will evolve to a society of herbivores and will look back on omnivores of the past as barbaric.

uncivillzed? well, as long as the animal you are eating came from a slaugther house that treats them right then no, it's not uncivillzed. but unfourtuntly, most slaughter houses are houses of horrors.
it's a matter of opinion. if you think you should eat animal flesh, then go ahead. if you think it's wrong then stop. we have free will.
may i bring the bibble in the discoussion? well, i am. in gennises is says that the animals were adam's/eve's friends not until they sinned for the first time did they start eating animal flesh. yes, i know jesus ate meat [fish] and he is the only perfect thing that has walked this earth, but once again...we have free will. nobody, besides jesus, is perfect.
don't let extremeist get you down. immate them. they stand up for what they belive in so why don't you?

The so - called 'cult' diet I follow is the healthiest one ever !!! Who said that you need meat to achieve a balanced diet. Home Ec. teachers would be shot for suggesting that now!!! Ok when you (then later on myself) were growing up Vegetarianism and veganism were almost unheard of but so was peanut allergy, I didn't know what a coeliac was until I started work!!! Now even omnivores are more aware of different lifestyle choices and food regimes.
Include soy, or wheat protein (seitan) even pea-protein (get your duvet bricks out FHG!!!) but don't over do it. Did you know that if you are omniverous by choice that you are only supposed to eat meat 3 times a week to be healthy and that Omniverous Americans eat far too much meat in their diets !!! (Omniverous Brits aren't far behind!!)

eating or not eating meat is youre choice dont let anyone tel, you you are wrong. The human race has been eating meat to stay alive since year dot how can you call that uncivillised?, Non-eating of meat is a very new idea in the history of man so i would say that it is the opposite.

I am vegetarian, but my boyfriend isn't. In his opinion, it is vegetarians who are in the wrong because we are "mucking up the food chain". Everyone has their own opinion and these people obviously don't like meat eaters. I don't agree with people who are like this, but it' nothing to get worked up about. Get over it.

I find it so amusing that people post questions or answers in the veggie/vegan section just to be antagonistic - why do you care what this man thinks? because I certainly don't care what you think. Most of the questions I've seen you reply to, like simple requests for veggie recipes - you write meat based dishes (why are you so caught up in this subject matter?) you clearly have no desire to be lead a vegetarian diet, so go about your business - don't you realise that's a complete contradiction to your question above - you're just as much an evangelist.

I make a choice to have a veggie diet, for my own reasons - I don't feel the need to justify that to anyone.
