Veggs only diet or atkins diet?!

Question:

Veggs only diet or atkins diet?

I been eating only veggs and fruits to lose weight, it is going, but I've only lost 5lb in 1 month, it is just not fast enough, should I try atkins diet instead? any other diets out there?

BTW I really really want to try atkins, at least for a few month, it can't hurt to try right?

i need to add that, atkins diet also means no exercise, exercise is forbitten, so I will just sit on my azz watching tv and play with PC all day, I think i'll do atkins, it sounds too good to be true, thank you all for pointing out the risk, but no risk no gain right?

WHERE ON EARTH DID YOU HEAR THAT EXERCISE ON ATKINS IS FORBIDDEN????????
YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ATKINS OBVIOUSLY. IF YOU WANT TO DO IT, YOU NEED TO BUY THE BOOK AND READ THE ENTIRE THING!!

PS, ATKINS IS NOT A FAD DIET. IT IS A WAY OF LIFE THAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING FOR OVER 30 YEARS! ALSO, DR ATKINS DID NOT , I REPEAT DID NOT DIE OF A HEART ATTACK!!! YOU PEOPLE NEED TO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!!

First of all 5 lbs in a month is not bad. Your weight loss will be a trickle in the beginning, this is natural. As important to weight loss as diet is a fitness plan. This way you are likely to keep weight off and tone your muscles.

All veg diet is fine as long as you consider your dietary Needs. Going to a No meat Diet removes a large part of the protien your body needs to function well. It can be replaced with non meat sources, and it is important to learn about nutrition before attempting to make a big change in diet.

I would try atkins.

It can hurt to try. Didn't Dr Atkins have a heart attack? If you want something like that, try the South Beach Diet, at least on that you'll be eating the good fats instead of a pound of bacon for breakfast, pork rinds for lunch, and 3 lbs of ground beef for dinner.

DON'T do Atkins. I know a chick (fairly healthy, late 20's) who was on it for a fairly short like (less than a few months) and suffered kidney failure. She got very sick and was hospitalized for a really long time. Now, not only is she sick, but she has gained all the weight back and then some.
If you want healthy and low carb check out South Beach- it's awesome and balanced. it focuses on healthy carbs and low fat proteins.

The 6 Week Body Makeover is awesome. I have known sevearl people who tried it - they all rave about it.

Atlkins can be hard on your body (kidney) if you have a very high meat intake though. It's harder for your body to process all that meat daily.

Okay I've done both so ...
First of all if you've only lost 5 lbs in one month on a vegetarian diet you probably haven't been exercising and/or you've taken in too many calories. Just because it's non carnivorous doesn't mean its low calorie.
Now as for ATKINS run....don't do it. I thought I was so smart and so did all the people I convinced to go on Atkins cause I lost 29 lbs in a month, BUT...
not only did the weight come right back the minute I got back to the real world and ate a few carbs. but I gained back more, plus I became a B*tch while on this diet. CRANKY!!! and it was sooooo hard to concentrate as your brain has no energy due to the lack of carbs. It's so physically unhealthy too. It was fun for the first couple of days, bacon, cheese, steaks, salmon, nuts...
AKA fat fat fat fat fat fat...then you start to feel like a pan of oil. Makes me sick recalling this diet. How about adding a little lean protein to the veggie diet and exercise the weight off, then you'll have a firm toned body.

saggitarious said something that rings so true. While on a high protein, low/no carb diet, your concentration does get foggy. This is because the brain ONLY uses carbs for fuel, it never uses fat stores. I believe the liver? kidneys? use only carbs too, never uses fat. I can't remember which organ, but hell, why would anyone starve their organs? Why starve the brain?

Atkins is unhealthy, because it overworks the kidneys and you ingest all that fat & cholesterol.

Atkins puts you into a state called ketosis. When you drastically decrease, or eliminate (God forbid) carbs, your body taps into its fat stores for energy. This is technically starvation. As a result of metabolizing this fat, ketones are released from the body via sweat, urine, and breath. It causes stank breath, this is true. I was on Lindora (a very strict high protein, low carb diet) and needed TicTacs constantly, and my mouth tasted terrible. I was weak and couldn't think straight, had no energy. One day I felt so weak/sick and got fed up, so I ate a bowl of split pea soup with veggies. OMG, within 15 minutes I felt MUCH MUCH better!

Ketosis is a dangerous state to be in, a Dr once told me that when I told him I was trying to remain in ketosis.

Five pounds a month is a healthy rate. You didn't gain weight all in one shot, so it won't come off all in one shot either.

Make sure you're eating grains and veggies too, as well as legumes, nuts, and if you want, some soy products. Take a vitamin daily. If you do this, you'll get all the nutrients you need.

If you eat too little, you can stunt your metabolism and make it even harder to lose weight. You actually have to feed your metabolism for it to work. Your body needs energy, so eat it. But of course, don't overeat. Stop when you're satisfied.

Try avoiding the extremes in hunger and satiety... don't let yourself get starvin' hungry, and don't eat so much you're uncomfortable. A happy medium is best.

Put veggies on 1/2 of your plate, grains on 1/4 of your plate, and protein on 1/4 of your plate, and enjoy. Stop eating when you're no longer hungry.

stick wit ur veggs only diet and excerise alot! thats the only way to lose weight.......

The atkins diet is dangerous. For someone to say they are willing to take the risk of serious bodily damage for the sake of losing some weight is totally ridiculous. Your life and your body is precious - you need to keep it that way.

Fad diets don't work and those diets you mention are unhealthy. You NEED whole grains, legumes etc. in your diet AND you need to exercise.

I am surprised to see that ANYONE in vegetarian or vegan section told you OK go do it.

I am pretty sure you are being sarcastic when you are announcing your intentions to start it, but most of what people write about Atkins are from people who have either never actually read it or got their own ideas of what it's supposed to be. You are supposed to eat mostly vegetables, some fruits (especially berries), very high fiber grains, meat, cheese, and eggs. The "mental cloudiness" passes after about 2 days as your body gets used to the idea of ketosis. Most people end up eating more vegetables on Atkins than they were before. I don't know if any idiots think you are not supposed to exercise on Atkins....

I did Atkins for 3 months and lost 65 lbs. I gained back 20 but the rest have stayed off for more than three years. I still try to hold back on potatoes, bread, and pasta, or candy, and eat higher fiber stuff. Still a mild version of Atkins.

As for Robert Atkins himself, he suffered a mild heart attack at the age of 71 from cardiomyopathy (unrelated to his condition - if you don't believe it look at the sources - it was an infection that spread to his heart) from which he fully recovered. He died from massive head injuries when he slipped on ice while still working full time at the age of 72. Contrary to what people quote (from PETA crap) he was 196 lb and 6 feet tall at the time of his admission to hospital. Not exactly obese. When he died 9 days later he had gained 59 lb through fluid retention as his kidneys failed due to his deterioting condition from brain swelling.

You can like his diet or not, but stop spreading lies.
