How do you feel about zoos and wildlife parks?!

Question:

How do you feel about zoos and wildlife parks?

i'm undecided on this
my arguement is that in a contained environment like a zoo or wildlife park the animals are given substantial amounts of food, clean water, decent weather conditions, medical assistance and are no longer under threat by predators. this will give them a more comfortable, probably longer life.

on the other hand it's obviously not fair to pluck animals out of the wild for visitors to gawk at, and to enclose them in a small environment is very unfair. animals should be allowed to run free through endless land, not feel trapped.

i guess perhaps it depends on the individual zoo and the workers attitudes towards the animals which will reflect how they treat them.

i'd just like to know what you all think about this.
thanks

Answers:
Personally i am against zoos,i find that the animals are Pulled out from their natural habitats and moved nto small cages where people can see them, and all this sadly done for money.

In this case the animals suffer for our entertainment, i take for example the tigers who need enormous teritories for having a normal life..
Of course it is cheaper to see the animals at the zoo than to go see them in their natural habitat.

But I can give a very good example too. Last summer i have been in South France in a Wildlife reservation where they had 300 ha for the naimals..it was amazing, and we could see that the animals were feeling like in their natural habitat. It was really remarkable, i had seen NO CAGES at ALL, animals were free!

And another sad example like the Zoo is the Circus..It is horrible to see those poor animals that are obliged to do tricks for the enetertainment of some bored kids...if it was for me i would totally ban this..

So, this is my oppinion and sad enough we don't realize the way we harm those poor creatures...

I too am undecided. I think in the past Zoos and Wildlife parks did a lot to save endangered species, they still are. So on that count they are needed service.
The other agument is valid too. These poor animals taken from their native habitat, and put into enclosures and gawked at. So sad.
Over all, I'd say, they do a good job.

Zoos and wildlife parks do keep animals from becoming extinct by taking endangered animals and keeping them safe in order to breed, which keeps the species from going extinct. On the other hand, people come to look at the animals, and the animals eventually become "pets", and are unable to care for themselves without some form of human assistance. I have to say that I personally like to go to the zoo once in a while to see the animals (except the reptiles, I don't like the reptiles), so I would say they are a very needed organization. Considering that zoos and wildlife parks do and have kept many species from going extinct over the years.

Most of them are for conservation purposes and/or education. Most are also born into captivity and not plucked from the wild.

My position is that they can be pretty good.I think cicuses are just degrading, but I think if people see animals in person at the zoo, then maybe they can learn to appreciate them and respect the enviroment.Or it can get them into animal rights or wildlife protection.

endless field?? where can I find this endless field

zoo suxx but what can we do? it beats eating them that's for sure, i don't like zoo it stinks, the animal in there looks unhappy

zoos and wildlife parks are great. they provide animals with protection. it's either let them die by poaches and logging companies or let them live a full life and rescue endangered species
