Is there such a thing as Soy Cheese?!

Question:

Is there such a thing as Soy Cheese?

i just want to know if there is such a thing as soy cheese for my little girl she's 9 months and can't have any thing with dairy in it so i just wanted to know if there was such a thing anyone know?

Answers:
There are several types of soy cheese available. Health food stores may have a wider selection than a typical supermarket. Since your daughter is allergic to dairy products, check the ingredients list carefully, as many soy cheeses have some dairy-based ingredients like casein or calcium lactate. If it is labeled vegan you can be assured that there are no dairy derivatives in it. Check out this article in Satya magazine in my source link.

yes there is soy cheese. It's in the refrigerated produce section at my grocery store with other organic and natural items.

yes there is soy cheese. It does not melt link "real" cheese and it tastes a little different. You will find it in the Health Food section of your local groceriy store of at a health food store. I live in a little podunk town in WV and it is availble at Kroger, Food Lion, Wal-Mart and our local Health food store.

If you haven't tried Soy Milk yet, I like the Flavored varieties and my favorite brand is 7th generation.

Of course! They make soy everything these days.
I use a soy cheese produce from Galaxy Nutritional Foods called VeggieSlices. They come in Cheddar, Pepper Jack, Swiss, and quite a few other flavors. I get them at my local Publix Grocery store and they are really good. You can hardly tell that they aren't real cheese. Also, they melt like real cheese unlike other soy brands and work in a grilled cheese sandwich. Try your health food store if you can't find them in the organic section of your grocery store.

yes there is :) it's in the produce section..usually with the tofu...:)

I think so,check your dairy section at your grocer or the health food store!Hope I was helpful!

yes
it is actually quite common
and you can find it in most major grocery storez

nope never will be cause you need milk to make cheese which i eat and drink alot i have an idea you will see in a few days or so

I have had a number of very good soya based cheeses, I am not a vegetarian, but was a chef for 20 yrs in Canada and want to try them to see there workability.

I like the processed style cheese slices, I guess if your from the the US there refered to as American slices, at her age it is not good to introduce to much cheese, the slices in Grilled cheese or just as a snack are fine.

The one respondant said they do not melt the same, if use in cooking like sauces, pasta and if you broil it under the broiler in your oven they can be fine, but they do burn quickly. I have used the soya mozzerella for a veggie lasagna, I use the no cook lasagna noodles, and a variety of veg in a tomato sauce layering it with the grated cheese.
