Soy: not a health food?!

Question:

Soy: not a health food?

Answers:
If it's so unhealthy how come all the major players in the meat and dairy industry have been acquiring soyfood companies while *also* sponsoring anti-soy websites and organizations?

Raw green soybeans (like most beans) *do* contain compounds that could *possibly* be unhealthy (most notably phytates, try eating raw kidney beans sometime) but cooking destroys those compounds! Dried beans have *much* lower levels and once again cooking kills the 'bad stuff'. Note that all soymilk and soy foods have been cooked at least thrice before you eat them!

Note that *most* health based organizations consider soy protein to *BE* a health food! I'd load you up on links about the subject but I'm extremely bandwidth limited until my telco gets some problems fixed (my connects are under 6Kbps).

Run a few searches on things like "anti soy propaganda" or look up the declining sales of traditional meat and dairy or just go back through all my answers.

Some people are allergic, and science is finding out that there are some toxic effects from too much soy.

It is only healthy if it is processed correctly. Soy is not good to use as formulas for babys. Try using organic Soy instead.

not by itself

I drink soy milk, but I hear that it can cause complications with pregnancy if you consume to much.

if it is not processed, then it is very healthy, if it's processed to make into soy chips or something, then it's no good, very sad to say, cause I like soy alot, and I always thought thouse soy chips are healthy

every day they said somthing is bad for our health, something is toxic, which can we eat?i don't know the food will how to be choosed, and who can care our health?

The Chinese have been eating it for thosands of years. As people have already said the more processed it gets the less of a "health food" it becomes. However that the case with anything, soy is no exception.

Soy: healthy food.
