Tofu topped with fruit?!


Question:

Tofu topped with fruit?

I had this once and enjoyed it a lot. It was a very soft creamy tofu topped with fruit. Similar to ice-cream in texture but without milk thickness. What kind/grade of tofu is this? I was out of country when I ate it and have never seen any tofu like it in the US. My host said it was like the “cream” of tofu. (if tofu was milk)

well in the US it is called silken tofu. you may be able to find it in the produce section of your local supermarket. just look for "silken" not "soft" which is firmer. i linked a site from a company named Nasoy that makes tofu products. the page describes the different kinds of tofu.

You want "silken" tofu, probably soft. It is usually sold in the veggie section, and comes in a tetrapack, like a juice box.

You can blend it, eat it as is, use it in sauces, etc. Mmmmmm.

yes, i so agreed with the two ladies above. i also think you are looking for silk tofu

i have a recipe using soft/silk tofu for mock cheese cake if you are interested

Thin Crust Lactovegetarian Cheesecake
* 1 tsp. grated lemon peel
* 1 tsp. vanilla sugar
* 10 sachets of sweet and low sweeteners
* 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
* 5 squares of soft tofu
* garnish: fruit for topping or whipped cream
* 2 eggs
* 2 tbsp. salted margarine
* 3/4 c. graham cracker crumbs

- Using blender or food processor blend eggs and tofu until smooth. Pour into bowl.

- Stir in sweetener, lemon juice, vanilla sugar and lemon peel.

- Heat oven to 325 degrees.

- Melt butter and stir in crumbs. press into bottom and up sides of 9 inch pie plate. Fill with tofu mixture.

- Bake 50-55 minutes. Cool. Chill 3 hours or longer.

The two answers above are right. It's Silken Tofu or Soft Tofu. It is an undrained tofu that contains the highest moisture content of all fresh tofus.
