Canadian vegetarians?!

Question:

Canadian vegetarians?

What are the best fake meat products available up here in the great white north? Apart from Yves. I'm tired of Yves!

Answers:
I love Sundried Tomato Basil Gardenburgers. You can find them in the freezer aisle. They're not "fake meat" per se but they're fantastic when everyone else is eating burgers. They're best when they're fried on the stovetop, they're not very good on the BBQ.

I don't really eat a lot of fake meats but I've tried products from Boca and they were really good.

If you live anywhere near an Asian community, Asian markets have lots of choices from all sorts of fresh or canned glutens, to ham logs, to fake seafoods... all sorts of stuff. Taiwanese and Chinese people are really into that kind of stuff. I saw a new add for some new fake meats from the Flora company. I think I saw the add in the Alive magazine. Was advertised as being created by two brothers, one a butcher, and one a vegetarian.

I loathe fake meat -- never eaten the real stuff, so the texture (etc, etc, etc) repels.

But.

"Dr Praeger's," "where you recognise all the ingredients," makes an edible veggie burger that I doubt has any relation to a beefburger beyond the shape. The Dr Praeger stuff has started showing up in Ottawa in the last few years; if the quality of the veggie burgers is anything to go by, anything of theirs you can find is probably worth a try.

The kind I like:

(The fish stuff is made from actual fish, but the rest is 'safe.')

My favorite veggie burgers are from M&M Meatshops. I kid you not! I never would have found them, but my Dad saw them there once and picked them up for me to try when I visited. They are great - bigger, better, and cheaper than Boca burgers. Last time I bought them I told the cashier that they were the best veggie burgers I had ever had and she said that she hears it all the time. The only negative is buying veggie burgers from a meat shop :/

Oh, and Harvey's has the best fast food veggie burger :)

I haven't been able to find brands other than yves.. and yes its boring. I'd recommend checking your local organic food store. Or try using actual tofu(all though I know it just isn't the same and takes more time.)

Loblaws tend to have a huge vegetarian and natural food selection nowadays. I'd start there.
