College Survivial?
I start classes soon. My college is pretty not vegetarian friendly, I could pay my tuition with the ammount I would spend on living out of a vending machine. So I am asking for suggestions for types of healthy vegaetarian food that I can eat while I am stuck on campus. It not as dramatic as it sounds however it might be when studying and hunger collide. I do eat egg and dairy.

I plan I bringing food. I'm jsut trying to decide what kidna of stuff owuld be good to bring that would be enjoyable and convenient. Nothign that is perishable.

There is a great book called " The starving students vegetarian handbook". I understand you say you eat eggs and dairy but those are perishable so you cant use them.
You should pack your lunches. College is so much better than high school. you can actually leave campus at your own will to get food or just bring your own and nobody will make fun of it. I just finished school here at chico state CA and there are a ton of good places to eat within walking distance. you will find your ways when you start school!
Most capuses will have a menu aside from their regular menu for vegetarians. If you ask someone who works in the cafeteria for a vegetarian menu, chances are they will have one.
Otherwise, your other alternative would be to grocery shop for the week with the foods you will use. Mostly canned foods would be your best choice. They do sell canned fruits and vegetables (I know Dole packages a variety of different fruits and vegetables). Another thing you could get is Dole's parfaits. They don't require refrigeration and they make a GREAT snack.
I would first suggest talking to someone in the cafeteria about a vegetarian menu. Even if they don't offer one, ask if they will. Afterall, you are paying to go to school there.

If you eat egg and dairy, then try: pasta, cheese or veggie pizza, salads, rice, pancakes, toast, hash browns, vegetarian curry, waffles, grilled veggie sandwiches, bagels with cream cheese, most pastries... I'm not sure what your school's cafeteria offers so I can't be very specific. If you can get a chance to go to the grocery store, you can buy veggie burgers (patties made from brown rice or soy, not meat) and cook them very easily with just a microwave.
you can take salads with you, rice salad, fruit salad, or simply a vegetable salad with the stuff you like.
you can also make baked pasta or rice, and it can still be eaten cold.
if you cook and make more than one portion, you will save time and money, simply freeze them.

Eat a variety of foods like beans, nuts, and tofu with your meals. I also enjoy buckwheat noodles. They are cheap to buy and delicious.
Don't you know, the staple of college existence for ALL students, ramen, is vegetarian? (Well, as long as you get one of the vegetable flavors.) My school is also not vegetarian-friendly, but it's still easy to live relatively cheaply, on non-perishable items. There are also lots of other dried quick dinner pastas and such. Further, a great junky study snack food to get is fritos. If you ever go full out vegan, they're still good.

I am also a vegetarian and attend college, but luckily my college is pretty vegetarian freindly. But I like to pack things like apples, or oranges, grapes, or any other kind of fruit that wont parish in your back pack. String cheese and chocolate soy milk are great too. I also like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, it is a little childish, but they taste great. Nuts and seeds are great, or you could get a trail mix with nuts, seeds, and dried fruit. I also suggest packing a bottle of water, that way you dont have to buy one on campus. If you want to get fancy you can even make yourself a salad and pack it.
And if you do decide to buy some food you can always walk off campus and go to a restaurant. Chinese, and thai or indian food are all veggie freindly. So are some fast food chains. Subway, Burger King, and Taco Bell all have great vegetarian options.

If you have a freezer and a microwave try the Morningstar Farms veggie nuggets. They are really good.
In all actuality though, since you don't want anything perishable, I would go for the wonderful peanut butter sandwiches. Protein and feeling like a little kid again. They're GREAT!
Wheat Thins or other crackers are good to have around for munching too.
