Why do Americans eat so much meat?!

Question:

Why do Americans eat so much meat?

I heard it has to rot in your stomach before it can be digested. That can't be good at all. Should I stop eating meat?

Answers:
Yes, Americans eat way too much meat. And it does rot in your intestines before it is passed through your system. And all that rotting causes colorectal cancer.

"Specifically, the lion’s small intestine, where most of the nutrients are only about three times the length of his body. This means that the meat he eats moves through his system quickly, while it’s still fresh. Humans, however, have much, much longer intestines, with food taking from 12 to 19 hours to pass through the digestive system. This is ideal for plant-based foods, allowing our intestinal tracts to absorb every little bit of nutrient available, but it also means that when we eat meat it’s decaying in a warm, moist environment for a very long time. As it slowly rots in our guts, the decaying meat releases free radicals into the body."

Who told you that? Ingrid Newkirk?

Meat does NOT have to rot in your stomach before it can be digested. The digestion process begins with the saliva in the mouth starting to break down the food, then continues in the stomach where stomach acid breaks it down, finally it gets absorbed in the intestines.

Whether you want to stop eating meat is a personal choice.

That's absurd.
Meat is an important source of protien.
It is digested like other foods.
Humans have been eating meat since early man.

Why do you single out Americans? People all over the world eat meat (unless they are from impoverished countries and can't farm livestock or have animals to hunt)

first of all it dosnt rot in ur belly
and yes meat is a big part of anyone's diet
so no

Because the US is the "fast food capital of the world." Every other commercial on the airwaves is for McDonalds, BK, or some other fast food chain. We've been programmed to eat junk food through repetitive advertising.

Because meat is nice and I do not want ot be eating the food dry

Red meat takes more than 24 hours to completely digest. In the mean time it is in your stomach sitting at 98.6 degrees F, sending poisons and toxins through your body. Instead, stick to more fish, chicken and turkey. These foods digest in under three hours, and then are passed to the intestines where your body can get rid of the waste.

That's crap. It doesn't rot. That's a bunch of veg head propaganda. In a well balanced diet meat is not only delicious but good for you.
The right cut of meat the right glass of wine and the right company can truly be a transcending experience!

Because cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, geese, deer, squirrels, bunnys, duckies all taste so good.

Besides, we humans are direct descendants of mammals who were customized to do this. Plus our bodies are made to break down the meat with enzymes so that we can absorb the nutrients.

A cow can eat hay. You can't. The cow has to eat it and then we can eat the cow.

because they are a glutinous and lazy people who don't like to exercise!

No, it' doesn't ROT! How ridiculous! It does get digested. Humans are carnivores, and have ample enzymes to digest meat.

No, it does not rot in your stomach-it takes many days for meat to rot.
The US habit of eating a lot of meat began with the first settlers-it takes time to clear land for crops and it was easier to hunt for game at first.
Later it became a symbol of prosperity to eat a lot of meat and continues to be so to this day-what are some high prestige meals you think of? Surf and turf-prime rib-lobster.
There are many other aspects to the issue but mainly, eating a lot of meat is a status symbol.
Also-we in the US tend towards laziness and it takes creativity, imagination and diligence to eat vegetarian.
To stop eating meat is a choice you must make after considering all aspects of the issue, how you feel about it morally, how important meat is to you and do you have the info to eat a meat free diet with good nutrition? Don't rush into it-do some research and then make a reasoned decision. Good luck.

Go with what Lovely said. It's true.
It takes at least 24 hours to be broken
down and shipped out. This is why
large quantities of meat causes
colon problems. Just research.

Why do people eat so much meat?
It's just like a drug. It's got antibiotics,
growth hormone, dies and lots of
mood and chemistry altering
substances.

Of course meat people will call these
lies. They are addicts stuck on their
taste buds.

Veg-head Propaganda?
What about all the meat , dairy,
and pharmaceutical lobbyist sent to
capital hill every year. They all work
together. There is more money in
feeding the country meat and keeping
it on statin, diabetes, and blood pressure
pills than there is in promoting wellness.

Meat does not rot in your stomach. All food passes through your stomach in the same way - there is no special "passing lane" for vegetables to overtake the meat in your digestive tract.

You stomach produces an enzyme called pepsin which is designed to digest meat. It actually works better on meat than on the cellulose found in vegetation - despite what some proselytizing vegans would like you to believe.
