I am an almost vegaterian. How do I get protien?

I still somtimes eat chicken. But I don't really eat other meat. How am I supposed to get protien?

You can get protien from nuts, beans and other legumes, soy products. You can also get protien from milk products and eggs if you are not going to be a strict vegan.

Peanut butter, butter, Peanuts, Potatoe pealings, cheese, milk, etc

Hun, you aren't a vegetarian to start with. To get protein you could eat:
peanut butter
brown rice
nuts
etc.

you should go to a health store,and the people there should help you.

you still can get protein from beans and tofu. Try protein shakes as well, as a seplement.

Well the number one thing is BEANS, and actually people think that they are going to get so much protein from meat when a lot of it is burned off when it is cooked. You would have to do some research but vegetables have protein like broccoli and others greens. You could always put some protein powder in a drink or some oatmeal also and that'll help, that's what I do.

The other answerers have given you good information, but go out and buy yourself some various Morning Star and Boca and other processed vegetarian "meat" products. Give them a try. They have lots of protein and are quite tasty in some cases. Others taste a bit plain. Experiment with them by using them in place of meat in chili's, stews, and more. Type in "vegetarian recipes" as a key word and you open up a whole world of possibilities. I've even found veggie meatloaf recipes and made my own veggie sheperd's pie! My favorite products are Spicy Black Bean Veggie Burgers by Morning Star and Boca's "ground burger". Enjoy experimenting with these versatile products!

Protein wouldn't be your number one concern with being vegetarian because really unless you are a body builder. There is protein in nearly everything you eat and its amazing how it can add up. You may want to take a vitamin supplement to replace some lost vitamins but again this isn't critical. Studies have show that we only need protein to be 10% of our diet or less so really as long as you eat a varied and healthy diet you don't have much to worry about even without eating chicken. I do recommend various "fake meats" from companies like MorningStar and Boca if you are worried about it.

beans, brown rice, legumes, veggies and fruits have small amounts of protein, whole grains, nuts, tofu. vitamins. there are so many ways that meat isnt even a significant factor in your protein sources!
oh! and to punkinfaye, fish is NOT vegetarian! it is an animal, it has to be killed in order to eat it!

There are many vegetarian sources of protein. Mother nature has blessed us with many bounties. There is no need to kill an animal to get the necessary protein. You can get plenty of protein from nuts, milk (assuming you are not vegan), vegetables, soybeans, cereals (wheat, corn, oats, rice, etc.) chickpeas, garbanzos and all sorts of beans. Lentils are a great source of protein. Some tree and plant leaves are also rich source of protein. For example, alfalfa leaves are a rich source of protein. When you combine milk based food with grains, the protein present in then becomes more beneficial. The "Jand Tree" (prosopis cineraria, mostly found in the deserts of the Indian subcontinent) has a lot of protein in its leaves. Its unripe pods (rich in protein) are used in making various types of curries and pickles.

cuz u still eat chicken, u are not truely a vegetarian, but u can get protien from dairy nuts, some veggies. bascicaly i wouldent worry about it. in america, unless u are a vegan, its almost impossible to not get enough protien. actually america eats too much protien, u dont really need as much they tell u. u only need to 2 -10% of your callories to come from protien. america is getting fat because they eat too much protien and it is stored in the body as fat. Dont worry about it. i dont take extra precatuions, and i am an extreeme vegan, and healt nut!

I eat a balance of fruit, veggies and cereals.

Ive been a veggie since 14, for 27 years now and i've never considered protien, nor anything else for that matter.

Either i've very lucky, or peolpe put far too much time into anaylsing where to get protien from.

A balanced diet will come naturally if you cook from raw ingredients.

Stop eating chicken, see what happens....i bet nothing.

Nuts, tofu, soy, beans, and avocado. Seriously! A medium-sized avocado has more protein than a large-sized steak!

There is no such thing as "an almost vegetarian"

Vegetarians get protein in everything they eat because everything has protein. Beans and nuts are excellent sources but keep in mind that veggies have protein too!

I eat a high protein diet and I eat peanut butter and other nut butters, I eat tofu and temphe. All vegetable have moderate amounts of protein. Too much protein is a bad thing and can lead to osteoperosis. Remember, all things in moderation.

i mostly get mine from dairy, bagels, and peanut butter. it's also found in certain plants and breads. check the nutrition facts on the food you buy, you'd be surprised how many veggie foods have protein in them.

nuts, beans, cheese, eggs, tofu, yogurt, also try Morning Star products, they're extremely good and a good source of protein.
