Question:

Does anybody know an easy & simple way to make yogurt from scratch?

Answers:
Yes, go to store, buy yogurt, go home, put yogurt in another container and pretend you did it yourself...

Boil some milk.....go to the store and buy active culture yogurt....once the milk has been boiled add about a scoop of the active culture yogurt to it then incubate it for a few days...

I have never been able to stomach the dirty-socks pong of home-made yogurt. But if that's what you like, follow the previous answer's suggestions

Home made yogurt is good if you use right ingredients.
Whole organic milk,
organic yogurt as starter,
a piece of sugar ( to stimulate incubation)
First boil the milk and let it cool down until 110 Fahrenheit. Use one table spoon yogurt for each quart of milk. mix yogurt with a little warm milk and make homogenous mixture and add sugar and spoil into whole warm milk, put the lid and cover all bowl with a down coat or warm coat (breathable one ) let it go for 8 hours. then open it and put in refrigerator , stand it one night. Yummy yogurt. Enjoy

hi bruce,

yes, its quite easy to make yoghurt at home.
2 ways - one can ge a culture for making yoghurt from a healty shop, or use a yoghurt culture from a carton (ready made) from any supermarket store, but dont use Greek yoghurt, it wont work.

I get my cartons from Asian stores. One such brand is called DAIRY FARM PRODUCTS, ROWLEYS GREEN LANE, LONGFORD, COVENTRY CV 6AN - live natural yoghurt, made from reconstituted milk and culture.

using this -

- bring a pint of skimmed or whole milk to boil.

- allow to cool but standing in cold water, stirring to speed up the process.

- milk should be just hot so as you can put your finger in it and feel the heat, around 40-50 degrees centigrade. if too cool then not enough heat to ferment. If too hot, then it will spoil the milk. Heat should be enough for you to hold container of milk in your hand safely.

- add about a tablespoon of the carton yoghurt into the milk and whisk for a few minutes 2-3, to allow a good mix.

- in a bowl of hot boiling water, stand this container of milk+yoghurt. cover both the container . \Cover the bowl so as not to lose heat from the water.

- leave at room tempreture or a warm place for it to set. usually takes about 1-2 hours, but can take longer. I make mine in the morning and by evening it is done. if you want the yoghurt to become sour, leave a lot longer and taste it to see if correct taste. does not take days to make.

Homemade yoghurt is usually creamy and less sour.....and the best. once done, you can refridgerate it for long time. You can use this culture, to make more yoghurt in the same way.

NOTE: It is worth investing in a yoghurt maker, available from Asian shops. The containers are heat resistant and made specially to stand an inner container of milk inside it safely.

good luck.....
