What are conkers?!

What are conkers?

They seem to be a nut found in the UK. I've heard it claimed they are inedible, but found references to people eating them, and pickling them(?)

Conkers is a game played with the nuts of the Horse Chestnut tree. The nuts are not edible by humans and are considered poisonous.

Regular chestnuts are edible - roast, boiled, pickled...

Conkers are the fruit of the Horse Chestnut tree.
They are not eaten and are not to be confused with sweet chestnuts which are ,having first been roasted

Conker is a kind of fruit.Its called "horse chestnut fruit".

Horse Chesnuts, so called because they're very like chesnuts but completely inedible for humans and only horses, etc, can eat them.
Very common over here, I don't know about wherever you live.
