Can vegetarians eat tuna fish or shrimp...?!
Can vegetarians eat tuna fish or shrimp...?
I have been vegetarian for a few months now, but have eaten tuna and shrimp a couple of times. My friend said that vegans do not eat fish, but vegetarians can. I figured that since they're not killed in slaughterhouses they're OK. Can someone tell me what fish go through or provide a good link? Thankyou.
Answers:
Sorry, dead animals are dead animals, and vegetarians do not put the flesh of the dead into their bodies.
Kudos on all your hard work though, and kudos for actually checking up on your information.
There is no humane way to kill. Under the best conditions, fish slowly suffocate to death. I can't imagine anyone wanting to do that.
Good luck on your journey into vegetarianism (if you so choose to make the big leap.) Don't worry; fish aren't that tastey anyway. There are far better vegetarian options.

Well, it depends. I am lacto-ovo-vegitarian, which means that I can consume milk and eggs. I do not consider seafood meat, necessarily, because they do not live on land. Fish are normally caught, but normally they can die a death by loss of water when they come out into air. If you want to kill a fish, just press its eyes. It automatically dies. I don't think they go through as much pain as other animals do. They do go through pain, of course, but in a much smaller amount than most animals. Choose your own way. If you want to eat seafood, do it. Also remember that when you eat seafood, not only do you get nutrition that is hard to find in other foods, but it provides more options when you go out to eat. I stay away from meat, but I love seafood.
Pescatarians eat fish, and are a type of vegetarian.
I haven't re-watched this video, but I believe it includes someone speaking about the damages of fishing/ what fish go through. http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/prefs.asp?...
And here's another of the same with Linda McCArtney. http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/prefs.asp?...
And here is a description of the factory farming of fish. http://www.factoryfarming.com/fish.htm...
What I always say to people considering pescatarianism vs vegetarianism is that it's easier to go all the way. Once you know what your boundaries are and feel completely good about them, you aren't likely to go back on your convictions. Though in transition to being veg, it's usually (I've heard) better to go slowly and give up fish last, so whatever. Go you for going veg, no matter what type!
Tuna & shrimp are still animals and have you seen the way they die?
Sorry, but true vegetarians don't eat fish or seafood.
vegans are the most restricted. they do not eat anything that came from an animal at all, including meat, honey, milk, eggs, etc.
vegetarians do not eat any animals at all. no meat, no fish, seafood, no chicken, nothing. but they do eat the things that came from them, like honey, milk, eggs, etc.
pescatarians (long name, I know) choose not to eat meat, but eat seafood including fish and shrimp. see Definition: Occasionally used to describe those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. Although the word is not commonly used and a pescatarian is not technically a vegetarian, more and more people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet. Pescetarians often believe that moderate consumption of fish or fish oils, which are high in Omega-3 fatty acids, is necessary for optimum health, although vegetarian alternatives, such as flax seed oil, are available.
beyond health reasons, a lot of people believe that fish cannot feel pain and therefore are more acceptable to kill. but recently studies have shown that they do indeed feel pain, so do what you will with that info.
I pasted a website below with info on big fishing farms.
No, they can not. Vegetarians *do not eat animals* no matter where they were killed.
then u arent a vegetarian. ur still eating a lliving thing that moves breaths and then gets killed.
how many people ask this!!!
VEGETARIANS DON'T eat any animal or living thing , fish were once alive so you can't be a vegetarian if you eat fish. Fish still get killed and it doesn't matter where they're killed there still slaughtered for food which are consumed by people. I don't know where people get the idea from that it's ok to eat fish and still call themselves vegetarian!.
tuna andshrimp is delicious so why give it up when you can be a vegaterian that eats seafood thats what my sis does and i gives us protein
you're not a vegetarian.
what plant do you think fish come from???
you're a pescatarian if you eat fish but not other meats.
Eat what you want....ignore the labels and the opinions of others.
that makes you a pescovegetarian, or some one who eats meat, but only fish/sea food.
it's said that fish don't feel pain or what ever, but i dont buy that.
HELL NO! Vegitarian- does not eat flesh...
Fish is flesh....
Vegans eat NO animal product [milk, honey, bees wax, ect.] I'm vegan... I look up these things
There are different kinds of vegetarians. My 9th grade science teacher ate fish, shellfish, and wild game because they weren't killed in slaughterhouses (and therefore, better for the environment). Lacto-ovo vegetarians (I believe they're the most common type) eat dairy and eggs, but no flesh food. There is a kind of vegetarian who eats dairy, eggs, and fish, but no beef, chicken, pork, et cetera; I don't remember exactly what it was, though.
It all depends on what you believe, really. Some people believe that using animals at all is wrong (That's your vegan.), some people believe that killing is wrong but using animal products is not wrong (Your lacto-ovo vegetarian; my personal choice for now.), and some people pick and choose random stuff that they want to eat. (My current science teacher eats no red meat, but she'll eat everything else.) Go with what you feel is right. If you're a vegetarian for health reasons, I hear fish is good for you. If you're a vegetarian for moral reasons but you believe there's nothing wrong with eating fish, go with that. It's your choice.
If you are a vegetarian, then you dont eat fish or shrimp. They are meat.
I still don't get this whole "fish isn't meat" thing. So an animal isn't an animal if it lives underwater?
You're not a vegetarian. Eat fish if that's what kind of person you are, but don't call yourself a vegetarian. It's people like you that make the general populace so confused about what vegetarians eat.
No. Vegetarians do not eat animals at all.
