Should i become vegetarian?!

Question:

Should i become vegetarian?

i swim everyday so i don't want the protein loss to have a negative effect on my health, performance, or edurace. Suggestions?

Answers:
You should only become vegetarian if it is in your heart to do so.
And if protein is your only concern, don't worry.... the meat eating, protein correlation is a myth. You can get all the, well, everything you need from a vegetarian diet. Use nutritional yeast on your food and you also have all your B vitamins. The new (vegan) Luna Bars also have the B's.

if you want but whats the point of becoming one when have already eaten meat?

before U become one..you have to make sure you know what you are going to eat to replace the protein. there are now great prodcts (eg.st.eves) that are very similar to meet..so its must easier now to be a vegatarian then B4....more options now

i am a veg.and truely if the thought of eatin a little animals musels then u should but if it doesnt bother u that much then no

Don't become a vegetarian unless you currently have a bad diet and/or health. You miss out on a lot of great things... Like seafood...

Vegetarians get their protein from nuts and beans so you are good to go if that's what you were wondering.

We were made to eat meat, not simply veggies. The protein you get from meat is not the same as other proteins. As long as you eat reasonable portions it will be good for you.

It's all about opinions. Some people think harming animals is wrong. Some think it's right.

Some think that being a vegetarian is healthier, some think that you need meat because you need it's protein.

If you asked me, it doesn't matter. Do what YOU feel is right.

stop eating meat!!!

I work at GNC. I suggest not becoming a vegetarian and eating leannnn meats for your protein. Eat a variety of foods that are VERY low in fat.

I was a vegetarian for 17 years. Now I am happy as an omnivore. It is difficult to get enough protein as a vegetarian especially if you are very active (I was vegan). I think that you should start slow (take away red meat, then chicken, then eggs, then fish, then cheese). Make sure to eat lots of beans and nuts. A lot of health food stores also make vegetarian meats. Tofu is very healthy and quite versatile. Also, there are many protein shakes that you can purchase at health food stores that are veggie friendly. Some are actually good.

Plants and animals are our friends. Don't eat them.

Yes, giraffes are cool. They're also dangerous animals, however that figures into the cool equation. Anyway, on to the question. Whatever your reason for being vegetarian, it is possible to do so without endangering your health. You'll have to do your homework in order to make sure you're getting a proper mix of amino acids, which is what meat is broken down into. You may also want to take some vitamin/mineral supplement--for example, vegetarian diets are sometimes poor in zinc. You won't suffer protein loss if you get the right mix of amino acids, which is usually done by mixing two sources in the meal. Beans alone won't do it, but it could get people to give you elbow room. It can be done, but doing a vegetarian diet requires that you study up on it. I'd suggest easing into it and if you're doing it for ethical reasons, eat meat gratefully in the meantime. Say a prayer of thanks and know that it really is good nourishment and you shouldn't feel guilty about it. Until you're ready to abandon it. I couldn't; it's just too much work.

theres plenty of vegetarian sources of protein (beans, soy, veggies, whole grain anything)...peta.com will make anyone become vegetarian

Yes certainly, It is great to be a vegetarian because in this way, you will discourage cruelty to animals

Even if you are very active in sports, you don't have to suffer "protein loss" if you round out your diet with a variety of vegetarian protein sources. My boyfriend and I are both very active, exercise almost every day, and both of us are vegetarians. Believe me, it has no negative effect on sports performance or endurance as long as you eat a balanced diet.

Becoming vegetarian is a personal decision that you have to make only if you are willing to commit to it. If you have decided to become one, congratulations! This was the best decision for me, health-wise, but it took a lot of research to enable myself to eat properly. Try accessing the Vegetarian Resource Group's website; you can get their emailed newsletter for free, and there are many helpful tips for people who are starting on a vegetarian lifestyle.

Good luck in sticking to this diet!

You can get plenty of protein as a vegetarian. Eggs, dairy products, soy, beans, peas & nuts are all rich in protein and you can get all you need from them.
