Peas & peanuts - any connection?!
Peas & peanuts - any connection?
My son is allergic to peanuts and we recently heard that he might be allergic to peas as well as there is an apparent connection between the two. Is this true? Only serious answers please.
Answers:
yes there is a connection
your son is allergic to the bacterias found in nuts, this is caused by the outer shell of all nuts trapping in bacteria.
peas also have a shell (pod) that traps any bacterias
it is quite common to be allergic to both
They are both in the legume family, so it might be a possibility!
they might both be in the vegetable section or the nut section...serious as i can get...
I can't find any information that links a peanut allergy to an allergy to peas. While it's true they're both legumes they're about as closely related as humans and lemurs (both primates). Has your son been seen and tested by an allergist? That's going to be the *only* way to know if peas are a problem for him!
I've been dealing with (hmm) 'allergic folks' for a long time and haven't ever seen or heard of anyone allergic to peas.
AHA! Is it possible your son is allergic to Aflotoxins??? Ask your allergist to test him for that! Aflotoxins are created by molds that can 'infect' dried foods and aflotoxins are commonly found on peanuts (there is ONE theory that peanut allergies are started by the bodies reaction to aflotoxin). It *might* be possible (if the theory is correct) that (and this is a big leap on my part) he was 'exposed' to aflotoxin tainted dried peas and *maybe* this is causing him to react to peas?!? I suppose (if this is correct) you could try a few fresh green peas vs. a few cooked dried peas and look for a reaction but I wouldn't do this before consulting a qualified allergy doctor!!
