vegetarians like most ppl get plenty of protein - it is in so many foods...
nuts, seeds, beans, grains, etc
iron as well can be easily maintained in a veggie diet...Good plant sources of iron include dried fruits, whole grains (including wholemeal bread), nuts, green leafy vegetables, seeds and pulses. Other foods rich in iron but which are usually eaten in smaller amounts include soya flour, parsley, watercress, black molasses and edible seaweeds. The use of ironware when cooking foods also contributes to dietary intake

Peanut butter has protein, if you eat fish, it's loaded w/the stuff, take vitamin suppliments for the iron and do your research on taking iron suppliments (side effects, what you should avoid while taking it, etc.).
beans or any kind of nut (almond, walnut, etc) will give you protein.
Soy is a great source of meat protein. Many vegetarians I know uses soy products as substitutes to meats.
You get protein from beans, green leafy veg,Quorn products are very healthy for you and soya products are good.Nuts are good for you and you can get health bars that contain protein.you don't need to eat meat to get protein so well done for becoming veggie.
protein and iron are actually pretty easy to find. these are found naturally in many different foods other then meat. What you should me more worried about is vitamin B12 which is only found in animal products unless its man made.
here's some suggestions
Protien:
Soy and ALL soy products (including premade veggie foods like burgers and veggie dogs and tofu-)
eggs, milk, cheese, nuts, beans (kidney, pinto, ect.)
Asparagus, Avocados, Bamboo shoots, Bananas, Barley,
Broccoli, red cabbage, Cauliflower, spinach, Zucchini, green peas and much more.
Iron: Iron is found in SO many foods, High iron foods are harder to find but throughout the day it is easy to get the recomended amount. When consuming high iron foods or supplements you may want to avoid dairy prducts as calcium and iron work as opposites and slow absorption down.
Iron: beans (chick, kidney, pinto, etc-), Spinach, Cereals, Unsulphered blackstrap mollassas (Non-backstrap mollassas has significantly lower levels of iron) Raisins, Frozen mixed fruits and mixed vegetables (such as green beens but not carrots)
Bagels (depending on brand), Brown rice, vitamin water (good source- a healthy alternative to soda pop), Purple grape juice,
noodles/pasta (pasta is enriched with certain vitamins and iron)
many premade veggie foods (such as chik patties, veggie dogs and burgers-), Natual peanut butter, Sweet Potatoes/Yams
Various types of crackers, Brocolli, Red/purple grapes,
Cherries, varrious oatmeals, Alfalfa, Figs, Tofu, Beets,
Asparagus, Unwashed/unpealed potatoes, Bananas, and so much more.
Vitamin B12:
enriched cereals
Vitamin water
unwashed/unpealed potaotes
Milk
Some premade veggie foods (enriched, such as chik patties, veggie dogs, and burgers)
Eggs (brands such as egglands best have more)
Spirulina, (an algae) nori,(a seaweed) and miso (found in various drinks and foods, especially asian)
cheese
tempeh
nutritional yeast
fortified soy milk
Some vitamin B12 appears to be found in organically grown plants, but in extremely small amounts.
I've been one for 4 years. I keep up my iron by eating soy/tofu and other meat supplements. I also take a daily vegetarian vitamin every morning, which helps keep me going and having some nutrients that I'm not getting from the food I eat. I also eat fish, so that I get my protein. Stick to lots of beans and foods that have lots of protein like nuts, peanut butter is really good. Plus, you can get the all-natural kind (I like Smuckers) and that way it's organic. All the food vegetarians eat is healthy for the most part. If you like lentils, put them on your spaghetti. They are definitely delicious that way. Plus, when ever you buy pasta sauce, get the organic kind. I hope this helped you some. Good luck, hon. :]
YAY! another veggie person :)! Well umm the protein and what not is very easy to find in different kinds of nuts, beans, and veggies. What is very important is that you get b12 in your diet. It is a vitamin found in meat but thankfully you can now not eat meat to get the vitamin. I take it in a pill form, I'm sure there are other ways you can take it also but I'm not sure how.
Go to www.petakids.com
you can order free vegetarian stickers, and magazines...
I've ordered them too.
