Is anyone else sick of people that says animals were put on the earth to eat?
I hate it when people ask a serious question about being vegan or vegeatarian and other people come on and tell us to eat meat. We obviously love animals more then them. It also annoys me that many people say animals were put on the earth to eat. They weren't, they were put here to be our companions. There are even bible verses that say not to eat animals but I think they're in older versions so you have to search for them. And even if they were created to eat, do you honestly think God would want them to suffer like the many that die of infections and illnesses because of the filthy and cramped conditions in factory farms just so you can eat? I don't think God would want you to treat your fellow earthlings like that, it's horrible. If people insist on eating animals, they should at least do it humanely.

Personally I don't think religion has anything to do with it (unless your Hindu or Jewish and your religion says what's good to eat) and I don't even believe in most of the stuff in the Bible. I just decided to say that there are verses in the bible that say not to eat animals because there are a lot of people who do bring religion into it and I thought maybe they'd pay attention to what I was saying more and maybe be persuaded to do some research on the topic.

That is a pretty sad argument for eating meat, I have to agree. It's sort of like saying, "Well, the planet is full of oil and minerals, so we have the right to use them any way we choose." That sort of thinking has led to pollution, shortages, and all sorts of problems.
I think we're here to take care of the planet in a responsible way, not abuse and misuse it just because it's there and we think we can. And caring for our fellow living creatures is definitely a big part of that responsibility.
It's burger time in my home, yummy
Youv'e got a good point.
Cruelty should be discouraged whatever the reason for it is.
Are you saying that the WHOLE food chain is wrong?
If we weren't supposed to eat animals, they wouldn't have been made with meat.
Oh, you just have to poo poo those silly people who say we are "designed" to eat meat, or that we have "carnivorous teeth" THe poor ignorant things dont realize that if we were TRUE carnivours, we would have the ability to catch, kill, and consume animals raw, the same way lions do. Quite silly, really. What God DID give us, are hands with imposable thumbs that are "designed" to pick fruit! If you cant catch and kill the animal, consume it in its raw state, and digest it....then its not meant to be consumed....just laugh at the poor fools, for they know not.
No, but I'm sick of people who think that animals are humans "equals".
You have never been to a real farm have you? Sick and abused animals don't bring any money, only fat and healthy one do. Stop reading crap and go see a real farm.
Well I truly agree with you. Animals should be cared for. Not to be tortured like a punching bag. Another thing thing that annoys me is that, most people don't care about the animals at all. They mostly say "Who cares?" especially about the endangered ones. Gee...
No it's the veggie people that have many deficiencies,if it wasn't for meat eaters increasing the size and use of their brains, we wouldn't have evolved passed the trees, and if you are so worried about animal feelings, why are you so cruel to vegetables and fruits, PLANTS HAVE FEELINGS TOO !!!!
Look, I see where you are coming from, I love animals myself but I also love to eat them...
when you say
"I don't think God would want you to treat your fellow earthlings like that"
you have to remember that in most religions (including Christianity) animals were sacrificed to "god" because that is what "god" wanted, there is no bible verses that says not to eat meat... Jesus ate meat and he never sinned so that means eating meat is not a bad thing in gods eyes
the fact is that animals are made for eating other wards god wouldn't have made them taste so good...
I think when vegans try to make everyone stop eating meat that is just dumb, I do think we need to treat them better but I would never say stop eating them...
So to answer your question
No, I am not sick of people saying they are put on the earth to eat...
hey lady wake up call. Your wrong, get over it, if the animals were just here for our campionship, why would they eat each other? Why wouldn't they be vegs, like you? No, not all were meant for food, but most were, deer, cows, pigs, sheep.
I don't like the killing process, it needs to be more humane, but food is food, and that's the way life is.
Oh and I do love animals, I just know which ones are on the food chain.
I think if you look at it from a base level...before man was what s/he is today...we have been competing with certain elements of nature for a very long time. If you can tell me that early man would look at a deer and think companion before he thought lunch...you're nuts. To say that animals are on earth to be our companions is without merit.
Now, to say that treating animals inhumanely is cruel...that works for me. If we have to kill an animal to create food, we should do it in a way that treats that animal with some respect.
Humans have teeth in their mouths that are for shreading and cutting through meat.
Yes, animals were put on this planet to be eaten.
First, let me say that male and female were actually placed on the earth for companionship (if you are quoting the Bible; this is found in Gen.). Second, there are no older versions of the Bible in terms of some outdated or updated issue. You are referencing the Old Covenant which remains part of the Bible today or the Old Testament as some might refer to it. The Old Testament was written to the Jewish people and they were told not to eat “certain” “specific” animals (this was for a reason). In Act 10:13, Peter was told to eat meat. So do not use the Bible for your claims; it simply does not support them. Nothing in the world should be tortured, but meat was placed here for our consumption, not our companionship. By the way, no one is telling you that you have to eat meat. I have many friends who do not. By the way, check your use of “then” in the sentence that ends in "more then them"; this should be more than them. I agree people need to treat animals more kindly.
YOUR RIGHT! THEY WERE MENT TO BE OUR COMPAINIONS! GO VEG!!!!!!
observe the Passover to the LORD. 11'In the second month on the fourteenth day at twilight, they shall observe it; they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 12'They shall leave none of it until morning, nor break a bone of it; according to all the statute of the Passover they shall observe it. 13'But the man who is clean and is not on a journey, and yet neglects to observe the Passover, that person shall then be cut off from his people, for he did not present the offering of the LORD at its appointed time. That man will bear his sin. (Numbers 9:10-13)
The New Testament records that Jesus did eat the Passover feast, which would include the eating of the roasted lamb (Luke 22:14-15). In fact, before the last Passover meal, Jesus specifically instructs his disciples to prepare the meal, including the lamb, for their observance.
Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it." (Luke 22:7-8)
Not only did Jesus eat lamb, but he also ate fish (Matthew 15:34-37). Jesus also promoted the catching of fish for the purpose of consuming them.
So Jesus said* to them, "Children, you do not have any fish, do you?" They answered Him, "No." 6And He said to them, "Cast the net on the right-hand side of the boat and you will find a catch." So they cast, and then they were not able to haul it in because of the great number of fish. . . . So when they got out on the land, they saw* a charcoal fire already laid and fish placed on it, and bread. 10Jesus said* to them, "Bring some of the fish which you have now caught." 11Simon Peter went up and drew the net to land, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not torn. 12Jesus said* to them, "Come and have breakfast." None of the disciples ventured to question Him, "Who are You?" knowing that it was the Lord. 13Jesus came* and took* the bread and gave* it to them, and the fish likewise. (John 21:5-6, 9-14)
I am continualy confused why it is that vegetarians are constantly trying to make us believe that Jesus or God is involved with your weird reasonings of why you don't eat meat. What is up with your theories? I mean if your a vegetarien GREAT more power to you but we arent screaming "cruelty to plants or veggies because you CHOOSE to be vegetarians!!! Eating meat is no more than life, please come back to reality. I love animals and NO I dont think it's mean because I eat meat. And rest assured I thank the Lord for what I am about to eat before I eat.
TO ALL WHO SAY THAT EATING MEAT IS NOT CRUEL BECAUSE
GOD TOLD YOU TO:
Eating meat is NOT THE PROBLEM.
Killing animals isn't even the biggest problem.
IT'S THE CONDITIONS THESE ANIMALS SUFFER *BEFORE* THEY ARE KILLED IN THIS COUNTRY THAT IS SO HORRIBLE.
We can all agree that torture is worse than death. JESUS NEVER SUPPORTED TORTURE. Because of the profit-driven industry and little to no governmental regulation in the United States, horrible things are happening to animals now. Small family farms are the exception. Most meat in this country comes from large factory farms that have deplorable standards. MANY PEOPLE WHO LOVE MEAT REFUSE TO BUY IT FOR THAT REASON.
When you purchase meat and put it in your mouth, you are saying "I SUPPORT ANIMAL ABUSE SO STRONGLY THAT I WILL PAY PEOPLE TO PERFORM IT ON MY BEHALF!"
You cannot love animals and support animal abuse at the same time.
And I think we are a little more evolved than the pagans who sacrificed animals for their gods. Some of us anyway. That is a sorry excuse to support animal abuse.

I'm sick of it too. And they are wrong. Meat is a dead item. If U eat something dead U are eating death are U not? Genesis Chapter 1, Verse 29: Let All herbs and fruits bearing seed be thy meat, not animals or anything that cheweth its cud! ( That's what's in my bible.. printed in printed in1898 by Lord Murry) 7th day adventist version.) Fools say Jesus ate at the passover.. if he had it wouldn't be a Passover.. Jesus did not eat he passed over to others. Jesus said: If thou art worthy thou mayest take of this bread and water that be seen as my body and blood.. if thou art not worthy do not eat nor partake of it... should though the unworthy take of it shalt be cut off

If the meat eaters keep popping up in the Vegan and Vegetarian section we should do the
same to them and pop up in the section where
meat is expected to be used. In others give them meet for their actions! They are probably just as sick of being told not to eat meat as they
make us when they tell us to eat meat..
well to me meat is gross.. bloody, awful and yecky.. I never ever really liked it.. I had to eat
what was served while growing up but as soon as I had the chance I became a vegetarian!
As sick as I am of people saying animals were put on this earth to eat I'm equally sick of, people bring religion into it, and people spreading the lie of "humane meat". Furthermore animals were no more put on earth to be our companions than the are here for us to eat. Animals exist for their own reasons, as humans do. Any interaction between humans and animals should be on the animals' terms, not ours.

P.S. So many of the people who responded to this question are delusional. Meat eating in any form is cruel to animals. I would be hard pressed to find someone who would agree that just because a human child had a nice life that it would be ok to kill and eat him or her when he or she turned 10. It makes no more sense to judge the acceptability of eating animals be how the animal was treated beforehand. To think otherwise is a perfect example of speciesist thinking. These animals still die in the same slaughterhouses, no matter how they were treated. This "happy meat" nonsense that Peta and Whole-Paycheck are pushing, and the feel good Conscientious Omnivore garbage that Peter Singer started, are based on wishful thinking and ignorance. if you care about animals you can't eat animals or use animal products, plain and simple.
agree a thousand times over. I hate people like that. I hate it when people think I'm a total freak for not eating meat, and yet they won't let me criticize them. If we dare just mention anything about ou beliefs, too many people attack us, saying we're terrorists once lol. Some people are extreme yes, but I'm not, I just don't believe in cruelty to animal. They criticize all the time but we can't.
Wanna know my secret comeback?
Yes, God did put animals on earth to eat. But back in biblical times they weren't abused, pumped full of growth hormones, forced to live 2 inches away from another animal. They were sacred beings. And Honestly, if God was on earth today do you think he'd be like "Hey guys wanna go to KFC for lunch today?"
You don't have to search very hard. Google stuff like "biblical vegetarianism."
"The following piece of Aramaic scripture, stored in the vatican library, has been quoted in several vegetarian publications;
"Jesus answered; and the flesh of slain beasts in his body will become his own tomb, for I tell you truly, he who kills, kills himself, and whoso eats the flesh of slain beasts eats the body of death.""

But, who cares? Not everybody believes in Christianity.
The bible-thumpers who do show up in this section strike me as (1) thoroughly confused, and (2) thoroughly un-Christian. Judgemental snarkiness isn't a great hallmark of personal holiness.
There's unquestionably nothing in the bible claiming it's somehow sinful to not eat meat. Right, so, there're cows, and man has the means to kill and cook ditto. Same with broccoli, but I don't remember the first President Bush catching any flak from evangelicals for openly disdaining the eating of broccoli...
It also invariably overlooks the shabby way animals are treated before being eaten, yes. There's nothing genuinely 'Christian' about the weirdos in question; it's just a poor rationale for self-indulgence. You almost have to wonder if they feel guilty about it; I'm not sure why else anybody non-veg would be so interested in other people's dietary habits.
It also doesn't adequately address why it might not be okay to eat my cats.
Really, it's almost nice that that's the best people can come up with as an argument against vegetarianism...
Sure am. I think we should let animals eat them.
Sweetie, Animals suffer even when they aren't confined to crappy conditions.. suffering is a part of life. Young, old, innocent, jerks, all races, all species, all living creatures EVERYWHERE suffer. God/nature made things as such. Abusing and/or inflicting suffering of any living being is immoral, but living off the land is not. Animals are a part of the land.
Your opinion is that animals are here as companions and you have a right to your opinion. However, just as you have your right, so does everyone else, including people who eat meat and who believe animals are here for us to eat. I'm a vegetarian and have been for 21 years, but I don't preach or shove my beliefs down other people's throats.
Just because someone chooses to eat meat doesnt' mean they love animals less than you. That's absurd. Since you are spouting the Bible at us, just remember that even Jesus ate meat. That's like holy rollers preaching that it's wrong to drink alcohol when Jesus drank wine.
itz in the bible but if u do not wish 2 eat it dont
but the bible says
How can anyone be so arrogant as to pretend knowing what G_d intended? But it is a well known fact throughout history, that a lot of killings happen in the "name of the Lord".
All these hypocrites really make me sick!
Eating meat or not is a life style and a personal decision and does not to be justified by pseudo theological arguments.
Anything else is pure ignorance and stupidity! Just do as you please, eat meat or don't and everybody minds his/her own business. I am also sick of people who come up with arguments such as: "How can you pretend to be a vegetarian by eating these poor plants that are also living creatures?"
The animal world is divided into meat and plant eaters, humans have a digestive system made to consume both, but also have a brain to decide for themselves. I am vegan because I want to be, and don't give anything about anyone's opinion.
