I have recently turned Vegetarian.?!

Question:

I have recently turned Vegetarian.?

I was wondering,
1) What made you become a vegetarian?
2) What you eat that is quite enjoyable?
3) How do you get all of the protein and nutrients that you need in order to stay healthy.

I just saw a movie called Our Daily Bread and was horrified by the military precision and lack of caring for the animals that were getting slaughtered. The butchers didn't seem to care at all about the comfort of the animals. They just slaughtered them with reckless abandon, and didn't even flinch when an animal was suffering and in pain. I am a very strong Christian and God has given us dominion over the animals, not just for our sick amusement or pleasure.

Answers:
1. I really felt bad for animals and I when i ate meat i felt really sad for the animals. I think its the moral aspect
2.I eat a bunch of products made by morning star, bean burrito and tofu.
3. I got all the protein from nuts and soybean.

Thank God that good sense has ultimately prevailed on you.

cuz u feel ur getting fat.

I am not vegetarian, I have been in the past...I am not a big meat eater but I do enjoy meat.

I quite enjoyed Bocca Burgers, they are a vegetable/soy based burger substitute that are very nice. They don't taste like beef, but with some seasoning and Worcestershire sauce they make a nice burger.

To increase protein and nutrients I found shakes with soy protein powder a good help. Tofu, eggs and soy are also good to add to your diet.

1 my brother made me want to be vegetarian.if it or once was alive he doesn't eat which includes fish.
2 I eat potato casserole which is my own recipe,
and 3 either morning star or boca products.

I'm not vegetarian, so can't really answer your question.
If you want to be vegetarian then I have no argument with you.
Where I do fall down is in the matter of people who are vegetarian and eat meat flavoured products.
I worked, only for a day or two, in a plant that turns out nothing other than flavourings for the food industry, in Runcorn, Cheshire, UK.
This was a plant turning out stuff sufficient to make it £millions per annum.
It had a provisional half mile blast zone around it if it should catrch fire.
There was not one "natural" product involved in the flavours it produced.
The productions of that company make their way into many "meat replacement" products, and make their way out of the plant in 50 gallon drums.
Fine, if you want to be vegetarian, but don't start looking for "vegetarian bacon" (available in my local supermarket) without my thinking that you are one heck of a hypocrite.
While you're at it, and asking for the "vegetarian options" in any restaurant, where is the "meat" option in a vegetarian restaurant?

peat2.com helped me out lol

vans warped tour is were i descvoered it and ever since then im vegetarian!

my best meal is from burger king : getting a veggie burger!

and you can get proteins from beans or eggs but i dont like eggs. although vegetarians eat eggs i dont hehe!

I was about to ask a similar question when I spotted yours. I've been reading a lot recently on the inhumane methods used in slaughtering animals and frankly I'm really getting turned off meat. I've researched and discovered that protein, iron and other essencial nutrients are easily found in nuts, seeds, cheese, milk, eggs, fish, bread and peanut butter etc. Good Luck to you. :-)

1.)life on life terms and drugs. Animals are given drug steroid and additives and a whole bunch of sick things so it can eat more and grow stronger. Its a wonder why we have so many obese people in the U.S.. I'm fat and i hate it in a real plain sort of way.
2.)Anything without meat any meat and their are dozens of cookbooks out there that i am dieing to try. I have even thought of becoming a chef.
3.) veg vitamins Good source from Vita world.

you have my sympathy no more bacon butties what a shame

i`m not a vegetarian and i think balance diet is very important for everybody. but excess of anything is bad.

I'm a healthy vegan. I eat lots of beans and lentils. Also try TVP , tofu etc. Another good source is fortified breakfast cereals.

1) Because the thought of having corpses in my mouth and body made me feel like I was going to be sick every time i came close to meat. I don't know what started it off but I can't face the guilt of eating meat now.

2) I love a good vegetarian lasange, just replace the meat with a load of fresh cooked veg

2) I drink loads of soya milk and eat nuts and quorn and things.

Lets face it if your killing animals all day do you have time to think.

when i realised i was cruelly murdering the other inhabitants of our world, i have been a vegetarian for over a year and a half and i feel so much better about not eating meat, i definately reccommend you join up with VIVA(vegetarians international voice for animals)- woop! go mungbean! i am gonna join up pretty soon,i havent yet though. i usually make my own soups, which are healthy (and taste better than the tinned ones) and meat-free. i am meant to be taking these pills that are the nutrients n stuff but they are really hard to swallow and every other vegetarian i know does not take these so i don't. hope this answers ur qiestions anyway =]

good for you

I was already partially on the way to be coming a veggie (no red meat, very little chicken, lots of fish) when I met and fell in love with my eventual wife and she gave me the strength to turn veggie. I then soon afterwards did my teacher training at an agricultural college which reconfirmed that I didn't like the way animals were farmed and made me even more hard line veggie.

I am a real foodie, I've always liked the texture of pulses and the flavour of nuts so I eat a lot of these. I love curry, especially potato and spinach (sag aloo) anything with aubergines in ti (eggplant to the US). I also love to cook and like to subvert normal recepies to vegetarian options. Canelloni tubes stuffed with cottage cheese, almonds and peas, cooked in a rich tomato and basil sauce for example. Use Quorn which is good, and just eat the things you love, and adapt those which aren't veggie.
Just eat sensibly, try to eat at least 3 or 4 food groups at a meal, and you will be fine. Much easier being a veggie now than when I started 20 years ago.

I felt sorry for the animals, and felt sick thinking about it, i think they should have a right to live and produce their own just live people do, they should have a long happy life to live
this shows you why www.meat.org
It shows you how much animals are put through.
I eat quorn and other things, i found it a bit difficult at first but it's ok once you get used to it,

1) Natures dictates that humans are ominvores so we should eat meat, however, I became vegetarian when I realised that Western society violates nature for an easy life. The lives of animals farmed for meat are purely for human satisfaction, which is never ok, in countries such as Kenya where tribes hunt food as nature intended, I see no problem. Also it is better for the environment to follow a plant based diet as more energy can be produced per acre of plant crops compared to animal. I became vegan when I realised that it is not socially acceptable for adults to drink milk from the breast of their mother so why is it acceptable to drink milk from the breast of another animal.

2) Hmm foods that I enjoy, well bread is my weakness but then so is chocolate and the hotter and spicyer the food the better (including chocolate). I pretty much throw everything in a pan and see what the result is - I find that my cravings for particular foods at 3 in the morning actually throw out somw nice combinations.

3) As for the nutrients, just the 5 a day but then loads of nuts, seeds, dried fruit and pulses, wholemeal grains & bread - as a student this is great, cheap meals & beans on toast all round then
