I am vegan, take no vitamins, and I'm the healthiest in my family. I never get sick (not even colds) and even though I was born anemic, I'm no longer anemic since being vegan.

Seems like maybe you just aren't eating right.

eat more food

eat fresh fruits, veggs, eat nuts and seeds, drink homemade juice
try to eat as much as possible

make sure you get enough protein

it's normal to feel bad if you just started, your body is adjusting, it'll get better if you eat better

You didn't say how long you've been enjoying a vegetarian lifestyle, but if its been for a year or so, I'd take a look at your overall diet. Are you getting enough iron and minerals, as well as a balanced carb/protein diet? Are you still exercising and taking good care of yourself? Stress can be a huge contributor to the breakdown of our immune systems that can result in getting more colds than usual. Plus, there just seems to be alot more stuff going around these days! Anyway, yes, by all means, take a multiple vitamin. Check your vegetarian diet to make sure you're getting the stuff you need to keep you healthy. Get plenty of sleep, drink lots of water, and wash your hands after you go potty! Take care!

Yes. Take a multiple vitamin, with food. Have chicken and fish once in awhile. Beef once in awhile would be good, you do not have to make it your main food. Humans are meant to be omnivors, eat both meat and veggies. If you are getting run down and more succeptible to getting sick you have cut meat too much.

You need to make sure you're getting enough protein since you've cut meat out. Try things like peanutbutter, Chickpeas, Tofu and Milk.

Here are some things you can eat to boost your iron - Beans, Spinach, Raisins.

yes you should take a vitamin. Make sure you eat a balanced diet, and make sure you are not suffering from food allergies. When your sick you can have vegetable tomato soup, bean soup or pea soup.

I take GNC's Mega Multi Vitamins
They're great

If you have not altered your diet in any way EXCEPT to leave out meat, then I guarantee you: eating that way for 5 mons. will leave you suffereing malnutrition.

You have got to get your protein from other sources, dairy, eggs, and combining starches and beans. It is not just a matte rof eating veggies and fruits all day! Not to mention all the vitamins and minerals and trace elements from meat in your diet.

Get a book from the library on vegetarian diets. You will want to do the Lacto-Ovo, most likely, meaning you eat eggs/milk. And meanwhile, start taking a multivitamin & multimineral supplement.

Make sure you eat enough tofu and soy products. Other plant sources of protein contain the type that only restores, but not build new tissue. Soy protein is the type that restores and builds.

It's strange that you're so run-down. You probably don't include everything in your diet that your body needs, and it's NOT meat. You should be absolutely fine without meat, but don't think you can live on crisps and chocolates. You need a well-balanced diet with enough whole-grain products, good sources of protein, and at least 8 portions of fresh fruits and vegetables a day. Try to eat all the colours of the rainbow every week, which will mean you'll get a variety of fruit and veggies. I recently read this advice from a dietitian.

Make sure your supplement includes zinc, it's important for resistance against cold and flu

You MUST MUST MUST take vitamins. B12 is very important for vegetarians. Take a multivitmin with Iron everyday and you will feel so much better.

I have been vegetarian for about a year now, and in the begining I felt the same way you do. I found myself really craving meat but it was really a cry for protein, and discovered I wasnt making my daily quota. Now I have a protein rich breakfast: multigrain toast, milk, couple of eggs and peanut butter on my toast. That way, I get all of my protein in one meal and dont have to worry about it for the rest of the day. If you are vegan you can get special protein powder for shakes, kind of pricy but it lasts a long time.

NO!!becomign a vegan doesnt really cause all tht stuff....well, it MAY be ONE of the causes, coz ur metabolism is adjusting itself to the new diet, and u aint really providing a smooth transition frm non veggie stuff to vegan food...just start off with protein rich legumnious stuff, and green leafy veggies, and then switch over to ne kinda vegan diet u like.

Of the plant foods, good sources of iron include legumes, whole grains (including wholemeal bread), wheat germ, oatmeal, green leafy vegetables, peas, broccoli, potatoes, nuts, seeds, peaches and dried fruit.
