I am a new vegetarian - why am i now so tired????
Answers:
Don't listen to all these idiots telling you that you can't be a vegetarian. Iron and protein deficiency? Not likely.
What you need to do is examine your diet. Are you eating junk food? Drinking soda? Eating white instead of whole grains? Are you eating a variety of food?
The fact is that meat plays a major role in meat eaters' diets and you can't just cut out meat, replace it with whatever, and expect a jolly good time. You need to eat a balanced variety of natural food.
What I'm saying is, vegetarian or not, eat a variety of grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables, etcetera. NOT a variety of candy bars, sodas, and packaged pastries.
Vegetarianism isn't better than omnivorism unless you're willing to make it better than omnivorism.
For all we know, though, it could be totally unrelated to your new diet.

I've been vegan for the past year or so, and I'm healthier than ever.
I would have to assume you are not getting some of the nutrients your body needs---which you were formerly getting from eating meat. Educate yourself about what a balanced diet includes. You can't just eliminate a good source of iron and protein (meat) without substituting other things that provide the same benefits.

Because you not getting enough protein???
because you're neglecting your body of the proteins it needs, which you get from meat.
Its a lack of protein so be sure to get your protein in different ways then meat.
your iron is low! Danger! balance your diet!
Your tired because your probably not getting enough protein. I have heard that most vegans and vegitartian live shorter lives than the rest of us.
cause your body is not used to to the lack of protein
try a supplement like pro-tein to make up for your loss
Are you taking Multi-Vitamins? If not, maybe you should.
you are lacking protein when you stop eating meat you MUST supplement your protien - nuts are very good for protien. this is important even for people who have been vegetarians thier whole life...do some searches online and find a list of foods that have protien - and start adding them to your diet every day!!!
and right now (unless your allerigic) go have a nice thick peanut butter sandwich!!!
You're probably tired because when you take meat out of your diet, you're also taking out a lot of protien. You should find other foods (such as peanut butter) and eat them because protien is what gives you a lot of energy. It's really important that if you aren't going to eat meat that you replace it with foods with the same nutritional value. Also your body is getting used to the new adjustment. There are a lot of different vegitarian recipies online and ask your doctor about other alternatives.
May be u dont seem to cover all the vitamins and minerals spectrum. Complement your intake with vitamins and iron.
NO MEAT... a person needs it... people would not have sharp teeth, if they didn't need to eat meat...
Pass the steaks, please...
Your diet probably isn't balanced anymore. You need to be sure you're getting enough acceptable protein, calcium, and vitamins. To keep your body strong(so you don't feel tired) you need to keep it properly fueled. Just like a car, it won't run if it's out of gas!
Have you just returned home after doing lots of work in the office!! That might be the reason. LOL. I don't find any reasons for tiredness, just for being a vegetarian.
Its likely just a die off reaction from your body detoxing from a meat based diet. Try juicing some carrots, apples and celery in a juice extractor (can get them really cheap at thrift stores) once or twice a day to stimulate your immune system-you can use more apple to disquise the taste of the other veggies-my 12 year old loves the fresh juices
you're not getting the protein that meat provides. You're getting much more fiber than you are protein.
Not only are you feeling tired but your immune system is weaker too. If you insist on bieng a vegetarian (I wouldn't recommend it) you need to supplement your diet with a multivitamin and find other sources of protein, which you can find in many soy products.
Man is not meant to be vegetarian, we are omnivorous (eat both plants and meat) and do not thrive on a diet of strictly one or the other. I agree that americans do not eat enough fruits and veggies, but going strictly to a diet of only them is a poor choice in my opinion.
You need iron and protein, probably mostly iron. take a multivitamin and eat more cheese, beans, greens (like spinach).
you need to take vitiman supplements
Iron, B12, and protien intake are all concerns for a vegetarian diet. It just might be you are having a problem with iron. See a doctor and perhaps you have iron defecient anemia, in which case you can take iron supplements to resolve the issue.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE IRON IF YOU ARE NOT DEFFECIENT. It will cause more problems than resolve if you are not actually deffecient, especially if you are a man.
i am quit new too. i was barley eating at the very begining and when i was it was an apple or broccoil with dip. i did not know what to eat if it didn't have ground beef or chicken in it. i am now realizing there are more than i thought. like the other day i had a delicious burritio with the works except for the meat of course. now that i have stopped eating meat and most dairy my digestive track is running much smoothly.
BECAUSE YOU ARE NOW ANEMIC FROM LACK OF IRON!!! HUMANS NEED SOME MEAT IN THEIR DIETS!!! TAKE SOME IRON PILLS, AND EAT SOME BEANS, CHEESE AND EAT SOME MEAT! VEGETARIANISM IS MISGUIDED!!!
oh noes, better eat more then, get some carbs, eat whole food, eat real food, fresh fruits and veggs, it's good
drink tea for energy if tired
What are you eating? If you don't eat right, you won't feel well. check out the vegetarian food pyramid online. Most of the answers you are getting are just guesses and plain wrong. You need balance and you do not need meat to get it.
I asked my doctor about this and he said a vegetarian diet is not healthy unless you still consume small amounts of red meat. My doctor recommended at least 2 to 3 servings a day for maximum health.
Your'e probably not getting enough energy. If you allow yourself to eat fish, try to get a healthy serving of that daily. If not, make sure to eat lots of eggs, beans, and other foods high in protein. Make sure to eat foods from every other food group to compensate for not eating meat. Hope this helps!
