Does anybody know any good brands of fake meat for vegetarians?
Answers:
Fake meat is NOT ridiculous. In Buddhist nations--where people believe that humans should be compassionate--people who want to go vegan start by replacing animal meat with mockmeat to ween them off the carnivorous habits--think how quitting smokers replace cigarettes with nicotene patches or gum.
That being said, the best mockmeat I find are the Chinese brands--not everyone knows that Chinese Buddhists have a lot of good "vegetarian meat" products. Any brand is good, just search for them in your local Asian stores and Chinatown.
(I cant give you any brands, they're written in Chinese and I can't type Chinese characters here)
You can take the boca burger patties and dice them up and prepare them in chilis, etc :)
check on PETA.com pr goveg.com, they have loadsa products
Fake meat? If vegetarians don't want to eat meat to begin with, why are you looking for "fake" meat for them? Just give 'em tofu...or meat-shaped tofu. How about BYOFM? Bring Your Own Fake Meat? Oh, other fake meat: spam.
I like Morning Star Farms, among others. They used to also make a frozen "veggie crumble" that you could use in recipes that call for ground beef, but I'm not finding it on their website...I have seen it in stores, tho.
Edit: I found their recipe crumbles under the "meal starters" tab
This is ridiculous. If you want meat, eat meat.
Do you have any ides for a good fake apple? I'm wanting an apple but not a real apple.
Try Morning Star or Boca. It's in the frozen section of most grocery stores. If you're looking for a fake ground burger, use Morning Star. The Boca is quite chewy and you have to cook it specially before you use it too. They make many kinds, whether it's corndogs, hot dogs, chicken strips, steak, sausage, bacon... Boca burgers are better, but Morning Star makes better everything else.
And for all of you that think us vegetarians should just eat tofu, tofu is just soy bean, and all fake meats are made out of soy bean too. Tofu is just used for cooking and extra protein.
And for those who think we should just eat meat, we are saving poor helpless, tortured animals. We are reducing our risk of heart attack and cancer. The average vegetarian saves 100 animals annually. We have an easier time maintaining a healthy weight too. Good luck with your theory to just eat meat. Meat isn't healthier, it has more fat and calories too.
boca
QUORN is the brand my family likes best. The problem is it is hard to find. If you log onto quorn.com they list stores where it is available in your postal code. If you can't find it, Boca and Morning Star Farms are good too. Good for you for trying to vary your vegetarian diet.
To those of you who think vegetarians are trying to 'replace meat' with any product are totally ignorant. Animals have faces, hearts and feelings and go through great suffering to produce meat. There is no replacement for that.
Yves have good veggie deli slices and veggie dogs, and their veggie burgers are ok too. http://www.yvesveggie.com/splash.php...
Amy's brand uses a variety of mock meat.
