Vegetarians eat seafood?!
Vegetarians eat seafood?
I've been calling myself a vegetarian for a couple of years, not eating any animals and I just realized yesterday that I like Salmon and Crab. Am I truly a vegetarian by the standards? I'm confused now & don't want to be a "poser". =)
Answers:
Just call yourself a pescatarian. Pescatarians do not eat meat or poultry, but do enjoy fish and seafood. No problem, just restate what you are. Others opinions dont matter anyway. Do what works for you.
You're a pesco vegetarian.
no
vegetarians dont eat seafood cuz u are killing them!!!
Wait, what? You never eat animals but you do eat fish? So now fish aren't animals? Sorry, but vegetarians don't eat animals.
Good job cutting out mammals and birds, though. It's a good start :)
No, you're not a vegetarian. Vegetarians don't eat any animal flesh.
There's a term "pescetarian" that means someone who eats no mammals or birds, but fish and seafood. It's a perfectly valid diet choice, and healthy, but it's NOT a vegetarian diet.
If you want to be a vegetarian, don't eat any animals. If you can't/don't want to give up fish and crabs, that's okay, but then you're not a vegetarian.
You can eat anything you please and call yourself anything you please. In any case there will be those who will disagree with you. People dream all kinds of names for every tiny difference in diet.
If you eat nothing by solid pork and beef, and call yourself a vegetarian, is okay by me - - - and should be by everyone else.
You stated that you LIKE Salmon and Crab. Many Vegetarians LIKE meat, fish, and seafood but dont actually EAT it.
If you EAT it than you are NOT a Vegetarian.
No, vegetarians do not eat seafood. Vegetarians dont eat animals.
there are different kinds of vegetarians--some eat fish because it is extremely healthy for you. and may i add that some people choose to be vegetarians for the health benefits rather than "saving the animals" (don't get me wrong i love animals!)--so eat fish if you want to, it's certainly healthy for you. and it all depends on YOUR standards of vegetarianism not others.
Well it really depends on the reasons behind why you chose to be a vegetarian. If you're doing it for moral reasons, like to save a few lives or what not, then you should try and stay away from seafoods cause they are considered meat or living creatures.
If you're doing it for dietary reasons and just want to cut out meat then it's fine. Staying away from all meats except for seafood is known as pesco-vegetarianism. It really doesn't matter if your a real vegetarian or not. Hey, at least your trying to stay away from most meats, so be proud for holding up this long.
You are not a vegetarian by *any* standards! And I truly thank you for not wanting to abuse the term!! If you want to eat sea animals I'm OK with that.
Just don't be one of the (apparently) millions of people that confuse the rest of the world by combining terms for fish with the -arian Latin suffix that refers to a lifestyle and not a dietary choice.
We vegetarians get quite annoyed that more and more often we are told that vegetarians do eat fish and we're in the wrong for refusing to eat it!
When the time comes that you need a label please use PIscivore (from the Latin for fish and eater) and explain that it means you eat fish and no other animals. Just like those of us who are vegetarian have spent years explaining that vegetarian means we consume no animals of any form.
Please spread the word that you are a Piscivore and when confronted with the term that's abusive to vegetarians gently correct the abuser with the technically correct term Piscivore and every vegetarian in the world will LOVE you for it!
And I am truly appalled by the number of supposed vegetarians that continue to use and spread the offensive terminology!
No, sorry.
Vegetarians don't eat animals.
Greenghost already gave you a great answer, but if you would like some more info on the topic, please go to this link.

I try to explain why vegetarians do not eat fish, why some people get confused, why it matters, and why people who choose to spread misinformation when they know better are throwing back vegetarianism and making vegetarians' lives very stressful.
