it has no texture, taste, character.......=(

I see this question a lot, and in some of the cases it may be because people have never had a dish that is really well made. Of course there will be some people who never will like it, but it isn't a bad idea to at least try some good dishes. Most of the places to try it are Chinese restaurants if they know how to make it. Braised tofu is common and if well done is quite good, it's a slow cooked dish with black mushrooms and bamboo in a lightly sweet brown sauce.
Many veg Chinese restaurants probably offer at least a dozen types of tofu dishes using various types of tofu.
yep, its the one thing that I DONT mind being allergic to. Soy is nasty stuff-been genetically modified to where it is no longer healthy
i do not bad with cheese and ya im sick of meat poor cows
if your not asian the only reason you wouldn't like it is because you eat it like it is. you guys don't know how hook it up that's why. if you know how to cook it you would be able to eat it everyday even!
You know, it can be really gnarly when it isn't cooked or seasoned right, but if it's substituted for chicken or something in asian foods, it can taste pretty good. I also think Tofu-balls are awesome.
tofu is good depending how you make it....it tends to pick up the flavors of whatever it's cooked in. Try vegetarian chilli sometime. Make it like normal only substitute the ground beef for tofu crumbles---yum!!!!
I really like tofu. It does have texture and taste, in my opinion, and I am neither vegan nor vegetarian.
You just don't have the taste for it. You can prepare it a number of ways, and it is quite good. Most people just don't know how to work with tofu and write it off as something bland.
I love tofu. It's really versatile, takes on lots of flavor, and can be added to just about anything.
You should come visit where I live and go to Bangkok Garden. Their vegan pad thai with tofu will change your mind. It's delicious.
i love tofu!!! it tastes awesome!!!
i dont like it at all but my dad loves it. he loves the texture and the flavor (which i would label as 'bland' but to each his own.) unfortunately im the vegan and my dad's the omni. grr damn my taste buds
Anybody who likes tofu forces themselves to like it. They would not even consider eating it if they weren't trying to uphold some hollow self righteous belief to make themselves feel like they are better than anyone who eats meat.
Did you also know that as far as sources of protein go, soy, and therefore tofu, has the lowest levels of testosterone and highest levels of estrogen. You wonder why every vegetarian and vegan guy looks like a woman? Not only is it not good for the body (especially in males) as an only source of protein, but come on it makes you a serious pu*sy.
Lastly, everyone agrees it has no flavor, and i think it's ironic how the most common way to eat it is to make it taste like meat, when thats exactly what most of its consumers hate and are trying so hard to get away from. You might as well just eat the real thing.
I love tofu. For the vegan out there, it is one of the best source of protein you can find. Tofu is not as tasteless as some people think. I make my own sometimes. I have given my husband stuff made out of tofu and he did not know until I told him what it was. You have to be creative in preparing different dishes. There are alot of recipe out there. I have been a vegetarian for 21 years now, I have never crave meat, even when I was pregnant with my daughter. If you have someone who knows how to prepare tofu, and even if you are not a vegetarian you will love it. It is a good substitute for meat in spaghetti and sauce meat.... try it'
I like tofu, and the answer is simple. Depending on the type of tofu you buy, you will get different textures. Yes, the taste of regular tofu is bland, but the point of most tofu isn't to take it out of the box and eat it. If you ever buy fresh tofu and not the ones that come in the little unrefrigerated airtight boxes (silk tofu), you will get tofu that has a lot of texture. Eating tofu without cooking or preparing it with other things is almost like eating cabbage by itself and wondering who would eat it. Tofu is very good at picking up different tastes that you cook it with. You can make vegetarian chili and substitute crumbled tofu (if you freeze fresh tofu before hand and then defreeze and crumble it, it'll have a texture much like meat). I like to pan fry tofu until there's a crispy skin around it and then throw it in some japanese curry. yum!
Does anyone here like flour? It's so bland! It has no taste or character. The only people who like it are those who have forced themselves to. Why would anyone eat it?
The reason tofu is so fantastic is that it's so versatile. It works well to give additional texture in stir-fries, it's beautiful marinated in some tamari and grated ginger and then grilled or fried until it's crispy, silken tofu is perfect in cheesecakes, chocolate cream frosting, "egg" nog, as a binding agent in all manner of cakes or as a creamy topping for lasagne, baked tofu "turkey" with the right herbs spices and marinade has the best texture and flavour, and nothing beats tofu scramble (with onion, celery, peppers, chilli, parsley, paprika, turmeric, tamari) on some wholemeal toast with grilled tomatoes and fried mushrooms for a delicious and satisfying meal.
Like flour, it's knowing what to do with tofu that makes the difference.
i really like tofu
because you can do so much with it
true --- on it's own it has no flavor
but you can spice it and add it to anything you want
I've always liked Tofu. Even before I became vegan. There aren't many things that are as versitle as tofu. I always think its interesting that people only hate it after they know what it is. I've been in resuraunts where I could overhear people talk about their food. "This is good, what is it?" "Tofu" "What? Thats nasty!"
In answer to that idiot Daniel V... Your meat tastes the way it does because of the seasoning. Only an idiot wouldn't understand that. Using the same spices on different things like tofu isn't trying to replicate meat. Following your logic, it would mean that cooking chicken with bbq sauce means you really want bbq ribs. So why not just eat the 'real thing'. Come on, you can't really be that dim can you? Is it possible that you've never tried tofu? Sounds like you have a lot of 'ideas' about what it will taste like but I'll bet you've never tried it. So ironic that someone would be afraid of a soy bean or what it represents. You've pretty much said that its an attack on your manhood. In my mind, thats a bit pathetic. I can honestly say that all I have is pity for you.
I like tofu. I use to think that it was nasty until I learned how to cook it. Especially with curry or sesame seed oil.
er, it's healthy, it contains no flavor, meaning you can make it any flavor, meaning ANY TASTE, it have caracter, there is soft, med, firm, extra firm (firm means hard)
baked tofu, flavored tofu, spicy tofu
tofu can be frozen to change it's texture, making it chewy
i really like tofu, if i have the money i would eat it 10 times a day
It's all in the seasoning dear! If not, it tastes like, well, soy beans...! My fave is the greek style tofu w/ red wine!
i do in stir frys because its like a sponge, absorbs alot of flavor
