Guinness marmite - vegetarian?!
Guinness marmite - vegetarian?
Had conflicting answers to this. It is readily available at Tesco - does not state "vegetarian" as does ordinary marmite. I cannot find any information on Marmite site - so still am no wiser!!
Answers:
It is vegetarian. Someone actually asked the same question on here a few days ago.
It is made from the yeast that Guinness uses in the brewing process.
Guinness adds isinglass to the vats after the brewing process to remove sediment; therefore, the brewing yeast that is used for Guinness Marmite does not come in contact with the isinglass.
Hope that helps!
i'm pretty certain it is.
of course it's not vegetarian, it's full of Guinness. Haven't seen it though, not a marmite person, still I wonder how much you have to eat before one get drunk!!!!!!.
(PS Do vegetarians drink Guinness?, if they do, then maybe it is suitable for veggies!!!)
According to several websites it's vegan.
Edit: My big question is WHY OH WHY isn't it available in the US???
Well I have heard it's a good source of vitamin B12 for vegetarians, so I guess we can eat it!
If it does not say it's vegetarian like normal marmite does then it may not be-find a phone number for the company and ask them.
