What type of sugar is allowed in a vegan diet?!

Question:

What type of sugar is allowed in a vegan diet?

Answers:
Refined sugar is whitened with bone char (which isn't vegan). Unrefined and "raw" sugars are vegan.

i don't see why any type of sugar shouldn't be allowed in a vegan diet

Organic brown sugar is usually vegan check the packaging though. If you are British Sainsbury's 'So Organic' range is vegan.
Answerer Hayley, some white sugar is 'bleached' using animal bone char and therefore unsuitable for vegetarians and vegans.

I believe it is unrefined sugar, since the refining process is the issue.

I usually get the "sugar in the raw" brand (in the US). It is raw sugar crystals.

last i knew sugar comes from a sugar cane or sugar beet which are plants. there is nothing that can be not vegan about it. not even in processing
dont worry about it, eat sugar (although not too much)

Uhhh........last time i checked sugar wasn't meat.

anything without bone char, beeswax or honey
molasses, some kinds of regular sugar, malt barley etc

try agave nectar.

sugar comes from plants, so I"m guessing it's allowed. What they cant use is Honey, because it is produced by bees.

I used to use raw sugar but now use Stevia. It's made from a leaf and is calorie free. You need to use less because it is much sweeter then sugar.
