Answers:
I'm a vegetarian out of concern for animals. It's not that it prevents the animal from being slaughtered (because it unfortunately doesn't), It's just not happening in my name. It's kind of like how environmentalists plant a few trees in their yard or community. Their contribution alone has an infinitesimal effect on the environment, but it says something about the individual. And the fact that there are so many vegetarians, means that there is a big dent in how many animals are being slaughtered for food as opposed to if nobody was a vegetarian.

I feel that eating meat (especially pork and poultry) is very immoral. I don't shove my beliefs down non-vegetarian's throats, however.

They don't understand the food chain and are brainwashed by others

because they watched this show http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/prefs.asp?...

don know
to em, veggies taste like chicken

Some want a healthier lifestyle without chemically altered cattle or poultry.

Their tree hugging hippies who smoke weed all day and talk about how their gonna change the world....tomorrow.

They're convinced that they're actually making a difference or something.

I don't like the taste of meat

It's healthier to become a vegetarians because you body don't have to digest thick red meat or other meats.

There are lots of reasons:

Health - meat is fatty and you will live longer if you eat less
Morals - you don't want to eat animals - what's wrong with that?
Environment - If your parents are vegetarians you will probably be one too
Perceptions - vegetarians are perceived as being intelligent and conscious.

FP

because they think its wrong to eat animals

some people become vegeterians because they try to save animals
some think meat is gross
and others think it isnt healthy

personal beliefs is one reason. but isn't eating plants also killing them too?
also, health is another reason, although you could just eat fish and some chicken to stay healthy.

They become vegetarians for different reasons. Some do it for health reasons. Some do it for spiritual or ethical reasons like you eluded to.

Sure, somebody else will eat the animal, but they won't be the one doing it. That's what's important to them.

because it shows respect to the animals that ppl killed just so we could eat them..thier ARE others things that we could eat besides animals..i mean theres alot of stuff we dont know about that they do to animals to kill them..its just horrible..they are Gods creation to..ya know what i mean..and they have hearts and stuff just like us..i dont thin ki would want somebody eating me just becuz i was dead..its just respect :)..hope i helped ;)

It bothers me to eat an animal that can feel pain and fear. There are so many alternatives, all of which are more sustainable and cause less misery. Go to a slaughterhouse, or chicken processing plant, watch the process of death and hear the animal squeals, and then see how good the meat tastes that night.

experts say if you eat moer veg,s you can live longer and feel heathyer and not get fat.

Either they are hippys or they think they are being different or even snobby, after all ever one knows eating dead animals is good for you. I know my butcher told me.

some people do not like to eat meat nor they do not believe in eating meat they feel that is wrong eating off of an animal so the only way is to become a vegetarian eating tofu and vegetables all the time
or maybe they are eating it try to stay healthy or lose weight

i don't do it to save animals- I do it because that's the way I choose to eat. I eat meat about once a week if that much. I just prefer vegetables and my Doctor says it's the best for me, as long as I get my protein in other ways and I do. I just don't like meat and all the stuff they inject into the animals is terrible for our health anyway. I know someone who owns a really big farm and they told me about all the junk these animals are injected with. I just don't prefer meat.

For me, its more than just the animal cruelty issue-which is appaling if you research it. I learned how unsanitary meat is, and that was enough for me. Animals are fed a diet unnatural to what they should have, and therefor become diseased very easily. They are dosed with antibiotics, growth hormones, and steroids-all of that ends up in the meat. After slaughter, due to the fecal matter in the meat, they are sanitized with bleach, amonia, and peroxide. The meat contain urine, fecal matter, blood, whatever illnesses the animal may have had, etc. It just goes against my common sense to put that toxic load into my body. And seeing as how I was crippled when I ate meat, and now I am fine is proof enough for me. As for saying someone else will just eat it, well thats true. Not enough people know the truth about meat-if they did, we would all be veggies

I became a vegetarian after I had a triple by-pass surgery. I didn't plan on becoming one. After the surgery, I had a hard time eating ANYTHING. The hospital staff insisted I eat, telling me that I needed protein to regain strength. I forced myself to eat things such as cottage cheese and fruit, or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and such. When they would bring me meat platters, I would send them back as my stomach felt like it would turn. Anyway, I never got over feeling ill whenever I say meat, fat, gravy, etc. I now eat vegetables, fruit and so forth.

becasue it's not about anyone else's choices. i choose to not eat meat because i don't want to eat animals if i don't have to. if i have to, like in an emergency to survive, i totally would. but since i have the luxury of living in a place where i can eat healthily without eating meat, i chose to abstain. and if the billions, yes, billions, of vegetarians in the world chose to start eating meat, billions more animals would be killed every day.

im a vegeterian,, former vegan.

All I can tell you is that biologically, humans are omnivores. We are designed to eat meat and vegetables. To do otherwise is unnatural!

everybody is different and they all have different reasons.....to many it is the principle of the thing, some don't like the taste, some feel sick after eating meat, some are disgusted by the idea, some do it for health reasons.....do people question your eating habits....if not, don't question others

Well they will be one less that do eat animals. Some folks just cant stomach the taste of animals. But rather eat veggies instead. If a lot of them non animal eaters will do more protesting then maybe their voice will be heard. Then we wind up with too many animals if enough folks quit eating animals. Then it starts a chain reaction. Here we go.. putting farmers or cattlemen outta of business and it just goes on and on and on.

The point is, at least a vegitarian will TRY to make a difference!!! Its an honor to me, being a vegitarian, that I know Im not taking place in such a cruel way of living.

because they want to,might be dieting,or don't like meat, have to is religion.

Because to many people are getting sick by eating meat now days. That's why people started being vegetarians. They think it's not save to eat meat.

People can become vegetarians for religious or health reasons.....or they could be one by chose. If a person chooses to be a vegetarian it might be because they just don't want to be eating a once living thing.
