What should I eat?!

What should I eat?

I don't like many kinds of foods and I am a vegetarian but I want and need to eat better and I am working my way to vegan. I don't like any vegetables except corn, broccoli, potatoes, cold carrots, lettuce, celery, and kidney beans, all others make me gag! I only like broccoli with cheese on it. The other foods I like are, rice, cereal, cheese pizza, bean burritos, eggs, bread, peanut butter and jelly, noodles (sphegetti & fettachinni alfredo, mac n cheese, cheese, and snack foods (lil debs, ice cream, chips cookies ect...). Seriously, that is all I like. Should I be taking a certain type of vitamin? What are lentils and what to they taste like? I have tried every vegetable out there and I can't even force most of them down my throat, the ones I can it only lasts a couple of bites! Are these foods I eat enough? Please help me if you can, thank you.

To coffe_p, I do not eat meat of any kind, therfore I am a vegEtarian. I came here hoping to get advice, not to be put down. By the way it looks as though you need education on spelling, grammer and manners.

Ha ha. You made my night. I too do not relish cucumbers cabbage or weird vegetables either and I am a ovo lacto vegetarian at the moment. Honestly I would consult your doctor as far as vitamins and minerals you need to compensate for and even if you aren't a vegetarian you need to take vitamins. I found that Mexican cuisine is a Godsend for me and many foods can be made with refried beans rather than meat. Also, if you have not already, try garbonzo beans/ chick peas. I really like them on salads plus they are used to make hummus. I don't like lentils too much, but you can get lentil soup at the store in a can. To my understanding they are a type of sprout. Try making chili without meat. Also eat alot of fruits and drink juice. Maybe instead of gaging down a bunch of veggies, try to drink a V8. At this point I would stick with just being a vegetarian because being a vegan can be dangerous if you don't do it the right way. My roomate got sick from being a vegitarian and not eating well and she knows vegans who have had health issues do to a rapid change in diet. Good Luck and if you are becoming a vegitarian because of animal rights, you are still making a difference even if you are not a vegan.

Don't be so picky, and about your problem, I think beans are lentils so you are fine, and eat tofu, that has plenty of 'good stuff' in it, and it's vegan. You can season it with, well, seasoning.

Man.. you are sad. Vegans can't eat dairy so you won't make it very far. Also you have to learn to eat most veggies.

Being vegetarian is a good thing. However the vegetables you bought might contain pesticides. Perhaps you might want to go Organic? You might also want to try Japanese cuisine for a change. I heard that they are yummy and healthy. No wonder the people there lived long. (= All the best

If you don't like vegetables then you're not going to last long as a vegan. Yes, you should be taking L-lysine among other things. You need to supplement the amino acids you aren't getting from your diet. Try TVP (textured vegetable protein). It can be cooked similarly to meat and seasoned the same. Also try tofu (cooked and seasoned), beans, rice, and kale. You need to keep to the four food groups for nw. Try being a lacto-ovo vegetarian (you will be able to eat eggs and dairy), and speak to a dietician. When you've got that down, you can work towards cutting out the dairy and eggs. The most important thing is your health. Good luck.

P.S- Try shopping at a natural foods store or an Adventist store. They wll cater more to your nutritional needs.

you seem to eat alot of carbs -a vegetarian's way of trying to add protein into the diet. you need to research a diet that will consistently give you enough protein. there are specific amino acids in animal products that are not found in any other food. our bodies were designed to eat these amino acids, but in moderation.
contact your doctor. you can usually get a referral to a nutrionist.

I use to hate many veggies too. Take it day at a time. You can actually change your preference for food over time.

Make sure you eat all whole grains... wild rice, whole grain pastas, breads, etc.

Eat nuts and make sure they are raw... soy nuts, walnuts, pecans, pine nuts, sunflower seeds, etc.

Get dried fruits. Make sure they don't have sugar added.

Do salads, the combo is: greens, cheese, nuts, fruit, dressing. Get creative.

Don't cut out the fish... it is SO good for you.

Lentils are a small disc-shaped bean. They are quite bland so find a good recipe and make a soup or wild rice pilaf.

More importantly than being vegan is that you eat WHOLE foods. Cut out the processed starches. That means don't eat anything white unless it is eggwhites, cauliflower, beans, skim milk, or soy.

Vitamin B supplaments. They are found in meat, as well as some other necessary vitamins you can't find other places (which is why you SHOULD eat meat). Dairy is also an important part of the human diet, so if you're intent on becoming a vegan, you have to accept the fact that you will feel weaker and have a pretty weak immune system. Regardless of your personal beliefs, the human body IS designed to ingest/digest meat and dairy, so by denying that you are hurting your body.

However, if you're intent on it, definately take a daily vitamin every day and supplament more vitamin B and research other nutrients that are found in meat/dairy and make sure you get those in your system, such as more calcium.

eat what you can and add lots of dietary supplements to make up for what you can't (multi-vitamins, amino acids, and calcium all can be found vegan friendly)

To have a balance meal you need vitamin , protein and carbohydrate. Vitamin comes from vegetables and fruits, protein mostly come from fish , poultry, and meats products. If you are becoming vegan the best substitution for protein is soybean products which pretty much taste like cooked egg whites. Carbohydrates derives from bread, potatoes , pasta, and rice. From the list above you choice of Carbohydrate is large, few vitamin from vegetables but not to much from fruit, and little bit of protein. To answer you question about lentil is a legume like cannellini beans,chick peas, navy beans,kidney bean, soybean etc... To me the flavor of the lentil is savory , and nutty like lime bean, which is great source of fiber, and protein. The problem vegans face is that in their diet they don't have vitamin b12 which derives only in food from animals, such meat, milk, and eggs. If i was to become vegetarian or vegan, my first step would be the introduction of soybean products in my diet. I hope that this will help you little more.

The foods you eat are probably enough (though you are not getting much protein. eat eggs or cheese or baked beans!) but the only problem is that you will get seriously fed up with them!
Just try and find recipes that are right for you-with almost any recipe you can substitute the meat and the vegetables for others that you like.
i dont know how else to help...you have said most stuff up there, looks like you dont really want recipes!
lentils are lovely, and they can go in anything. try lentil soup, or lentil burgers! have you tried chickpeas? they also make great burgers without you realising.

Dear there are so many wonderful vegtables, grains, etc out there that one will never go hungry unless they chose to. You need to take an adult approach to that menu, that is unhealthy and in no way can it be considered vegitarian, everything is a snack food. get a good multi mineral / mutlivitamin and get some education regarding vegitarian before you mess up your health.
