Should I stop eating foods with gelatine?!

Question:

Should I stop eating foods with gelatine?

I have been a veggie for over a year but one of my friends says that gelatine found in sweets come from animals. should I stop eating sweets and other foods with gelatine?

Answers:
Gelatin is a slaughter byproduct, which means animals must be killed to get it (bones/bone marrow.)
It is like eating animal flesh, it is just hidden, so many beginning vegetarians do not know about it.

So think if it this way, if you wont kill an animal and eat its flesh, would you kill an animal to eat its bones and skin?

Good luck.

yeah because there is animal in it

yes indeed. Gelatine is made from boiling the bones, ligaments, tendons, and skins of slaughtered animals. Gelatine is found in things like pop tarts, jello, pudding, some yogurts, some ice creams, etc. Read labels and stay away from that nasty stuff. Agar agar is a vegetarian substitute, as is carageenan. Gelatine is often in hair gels and cosmetics too

Yes if you really care about animals more than food.

What you "should" do you will never consider......

namely, addressing whatever psychological issues are lurking deeper in your personality that would even make you ask such a question.

If you're serious about being a vegetarian, then you shouldn't eat gelatin. It comes from collagen in the marrow of animal bones.

Generally, vegans do not eat marshmallows or anything containing gelatin; as it is made from boiling the connective tissues of animals.

if you are a veggie you should because you are killing these poor little animals. What did they do to deserve this I believe that is cruel if you are a veggie. If not eat anything you want

Yeah, I would look out for gelatin. I actually have a few omni friends who refuse to eat it, knowing what it is.It's still animal flesh, so think of it this way- would you eat beef stock? If yes, then by all means keep eating gelatin, but if not then give it up. If you decide to go vegan then you are not by definition vegan until you give it up, but being vegetarian some people actually consider eating animal products besides actual meat to be fine.

If you do choose to give up gelatin, watch out for Starburst, Frosted Poptarts, certain fruit snacks, yogurt, and marshmallows.

If you have been eating them, you have not been a vegetarian and if you continue, you still won't be a vegatarian. Gelatin comes from boiling animal bones.
