Whats the difference between gelatin and gelatine?!

Question:

Whats the difference between gelatin and gelatine?

cos once on the ingrediets, it said ......gelatin(from soy) halal....

now i dont get it, is gelatine without the (e) alright for vegans or vegetarians?

Answers:
Gelatin (US spelling) or gelatine (British spelling) is made from the boiled bones, skin, tendons of animals.
For vegetarians is some other alternatives like gelazone, agar and others.Better check this www.vegsoc.org/info/gelling.ht...

both are the same but the one that says Halal has been made from animals which have been halal killed - eg the process worker has been facing mecca when he killed the animal - usually beef. Gelatine is not strictly a vegetarian food as it is made from the glutenous tissue of rendered live stock.

hi, gelatin or gelatine is the same thing spelt differently in uk and usa. gelatine is derieved from hoofs of cows.

a vegetarian/vegan substitute to gelatine is agar-agar. this is a gelatine substitute obtained from seaweed.

just the spelling. it's same thing..

only difference is one is spelled that way in the UK, the other in US. no differance. From what I have read, halal means the animal was prayed over before slaughter-and does not mean its vegetarian, but halal. Its quite confusing-especially if it says from soy.

It is just a spelling. Here are links for gelatin substitutes for vegans.

Gelatin Substitutes for Vegans
http://www.vegsoc.org/info/gelling.html... (agar , carrageen and gelzone)
http://www.edenfoods.com/issues_carragee... (carrageenan)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/gelatin_des... (agar and Carrageenan)

an "e"

Gelatin (with either spelling) is made from bones. But there are plant-based products that will do the same thing. Look for products that list pectin (from fruit), or either agar agar or carageenan, both of which are made from seaweed.
