Chinese BBQ sauce itself is usually vegetarian (it's mostly hoisin which is also known as chinese barbeque sauce.) It doesn't contain worcester sauce.

The restaurant probably does add oyster sauce or fish stock to the dish before serving it though, even if they claim it is vegetarian. So make sure to explicitly say no fish sauce and no oyster sauce.

Almost all worcester sauces contain anchovies. If it isn't listed directly it will be in the "natural flavors."

There are a couple of vegetarian brands of worcester sauce, and they'll be labeled explicity as "vegetarian worcester sauce."

Yes, Worcestershire sauce contains anchovies or some type of fish extract.

Depending upon the brand of chinese bbq sauce, it's probably soy bean based, using hoisin sauce.

If it's only a Chinese restaurant, then I would think it's vegetarian. If it's Vietnamese or Thai, I would not be surprised if it contained fish sauce.

It all depends. Some are vegetarian, while others have fish. Just look at the ingredient list on the side of the jar.

You need to check the list of ingrediants. You're friend is right though, worcester sauce does contain anchovies.

I always wonder what my chinese food Really is....

from what iv seen on the sites iv looked at ,no they are not but there are many that are ,you just need to have a look at the label. sorry i cant be of more help.

I checked quite a few brands, and cannot find any animal ingredients or by products in most. I think it must depend on the brand. If something is marked "natural" flavors or colors, it often is derived from animal sources

I dont now i dont eat it iam a vegan

just check the ingredients. but it probably is.
