Slew, good answer. Maybe people will start to think before they go all "humans rock" and buy a leopard skinned jacket.

I think your question of not having any weapons would include 'our' fist's would it not? If that's the case, then human kind would degenerate into a 'stealth' society, where we would hide from our enemy's instead of hunting them. God knows what we would eat! grass and leaves, and maybe some berries. And as for the food chain the only things that would fear us is mice and cockroaches! God! what a life! Have a good day.

I think big cats and Wolves. They found Leopards loves to eat our Homonid ancestors.

edit:
Is this your way to make us more compassionate to other animal? Have mercy, I;m an Addict. is their a Carnovore anomisity. I tried. I quit Beef, but I just can't go cold turkey.

HMMMMM Turkey.

Well done for being Vegy! I am too. Ooh yer, your question. Mabye something that we made extinked ages ago. Did you know they found some mamoth DNA (sperm) and they might clone mamoths. They might be top.

I think humans would still be. We've got opposable thumbs and a complex brain. Even if we didn't have "weapons", we'd be able to make machines that facilitate death, like snares, traps, and bait. That also depends if "tools" are categorized as "weapons"

First, I'll answer your question "as is". I think lions would be at the top. They've been known to gang up on an elephant! As far as sea creatures, I doubt blue whales have predators, though they might not qualify as ferocious, since they eat krill.

To answer your question realistically, humans have been given an intelligence that animals do not possess. Intelligence means the ability to create weapons and tools to dominate animals. If we didn't have that intelligence, humans wouldn't exist, and therefore, neither would your question. ;OP

Brilliant question, giving you a star! I have asked similar questions, but not so well put...spot on. I have always wondered how many people would become veggies if they had to hunt, kill, gut, and butcher their own prey, and dispose of the remains responsibly-I bet we wouldnt be the minority any more!

I think the honors would be shared between
big cats, bears, komodo dragons, and
snakes.

Ok I have to say this. To all people who
think the ability to use tools places us
at the top of the food chain this is my
argument:

The food chain applies to "natural selection",
the most physically fit creature surviving.
Darwin and Spencer never created a caveat
for using tools. Tools are not an extension of
the human body and cannot be considered
as a measure of human physical prowess.
Think about that.

Lions and tigers and bears ....? Oh my!

Oh, wait ... bears are omnivores, aren't they ... so technically lions and tigers!

Certainly wouldn't be us ... we'd be off foraging and scavenging ( the meat-eaters, at least).

It is because of the human ability to create tools that we are top of the food chain. If other animals had the brain capacity to use objects and use different strategies, then they would move up.

It's also a hard question to answer, because some animals attack in packs, like Lionesses and wolves. Because they outnumber stronger animals, they are able to take them down. But if you look at it "one on one" then the advantage would go to the Large and strong animals, but then many of them are vegetarian and then wouldn't be at the top of the food chain either.

killer Whales. They used to walk on land until we kicked them off into the ocean.Bavers were also the size of mammoths a million years ago.

If we didn't have weapons?

Would earth still be in existence. Think of all the people who wouldn't have died throughout history, think of the population explosion.

Wow, if we didn't have weapons? That is a loaded question.
Wars never would have happened, political disagreements decided over a chess set. Of course your "secret weapon" would then be the best player.

No weapons? Polar bears are carnivorous, and huge. But they are dying because of global warming. No weapons involved there.

With increased population due to no weapons, other animals would have died sooner, because we would have lost the rainforest a long time ago.

I really think that without weapons the earth would be much worse off then we are now, if you can imagine such a thing.

Thank the gods we have the choice to use such weapons or not. Some countries, citizens don't have the choice, military duty is required by every citizen.

Without weapons there would be no food chain.

pessimistic perhaps, but something to think about.
